Peter Explains the Lord Showed Him Salvation is Also for the Gentiles |
Acts 11:1-30 The Acts of the Apostles [in Smaller Chunks] |
And the apostles & brethren, [a.k.a. fellow-believers, who] were in Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] heard that the Gentiles had also received, [a.k.a. accepted,] the Word of God. |
And when Peter [had] come up to Jerusalem, [those, who] were of the circumcision, [disputed] with [Peter,] saying, You went in [with the uncircumcised men, & [ate] with them. But Peter [explained] the matter from the beginning, & [gave] them [a detailed explanation.] |
Saying, I was praying & in a trance, in the city of Joppa, & I saw a vision. A certain vessel, [a.k.a. container or pouch, like] it had been a [large] sheet, [came down] & [lowered] from heaven, by [is] 4 corners. And it even came to me. I [thought about] [it,] & had [focused] my eyes upon [it,] & saw four-footed [animals;] wild beasts; creeping things of the [ground,] & [birds] of the air. |
And I heard a voice saying to me, Arise, Peter, [kill,] & eat. But I said, [Let it be] not so, Lord. For nothing common or unclean [has] at any time entered into my mouth. But the voice answered me again from heaven, [Don't] you call common, what God [has] cleansed. And this was done 3 times, & all were drawn, [a.k.a. pulled,] up into heaven again. |
And [I] immediately saw 3 men [who were] sent from Caesarea to me & [had] already come there to the house where I was. And the Spirit [instructed] me, Go with them, [without] doubting. [Also,] these 6 brethren [came with] me, & we entered into the man's house. |
And [Cornelius explained] [to] us, [about] how he had seen an Angel in his house, [who] stood & said to him, Send men to Joppa, & call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; who shall tell you the Words [by which] you & all your [household] shall be saved. |
And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] fell on them, [like] [the Holy Spirit fell] on us [in] the beginning. [Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost [had] fully come, they were all in one place, with one accord, [a.k.a. united as one, in agreement.] And suddenly a sound from heaven came there, [like] of a mighty, rushing wind, & it filled all the house where they were sitting. And cloven tongues appeared to them there, like as [from] fire, & it sat [over] each of them. *And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] & began to speak with other tongues, [a.k.a. languages,] as the Spirit gave them utterance.] |
Then, I remembered the Word of the Lord, & how He said, Indeed, John baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit.] [Since God [has] [given] them the [same] gift as He did to us, who believed [in] the Lord Jesus Christ, [who] was I, that I could withstand God? |
When they heard these things, they held their peace, & glorified God, saying, Then God [has] also granted repentance, [a.k.a. forgiveness,] [that leads] to Life, to the Gentiles also. [Romans 10:12-13 For there is no difference between the Jew & the Greek, [a.k.a. Gentiles.] For the same Lord over all is rich to all, [who] call upon Him. For [whoever] shall call upon the Name of the Lord, shall be saved.] |
Now, [those, who] were scattered [around,] [because of] the persecution that arose, [related to] Stephen, [traveled] as far as: Phenice, Cyprus, & Antioch, preaching the Word to [no one,] but only to the Jews. And some of [those] were men [from:] Cyprus & Cyrene, [who] when they [came] to Antioch, [spoke] preaching [about] the Lord Jesus to the Grecians, [a.k.a. Greek-speaking Jews, or Jews scattered among the Gentiles.] |
And the hand of the Lord was with them. And a [large] number [of them] believed & turned to the Lord. Then, tidings, [a.k.a. news,] of these things came to the ears of the church, which was in Jerusalem. And they sent [out] Barnabas, [so] that he should go as far as Antioch. |
When [Barnabas] came, & had seen the grace of God, was glad, & [was] who [persuaded,] them all, [so] that they would [cling] to the Lord, with purpose of heart. For [Barnabas] was a good man, & [was] full of the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] & [full] of faith. And [many] people [were] added to the Lord. |
Then, Barnabas departed to Tarsus, to seek for Saul. And when [Barnabas] had found [Saul,] he brought [Saul] to Antioch. And it [happened,] that [for] a whole year, they assembled, [a.k.a. gathered,] themselves with the church, & taught [many] people. And the disciples were 1st called Christians in Antioch. |
And [during] those days, prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. And one of them named Agabus stood up there, & signified, [a.k.a. announced, through] the Spirit, that there should be a great dearth, [a.k.a. severe famine,] throughout all the world; which [happened during] the days of Claudius Caesar. |
Then, every man [of] the disciples, determined, [a.k.a. decided,] to send relief to the brethren, [a.k.a. fellow believers, who lived] in Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] according to his ability. Which they also did, & sent [the relief] by the hands of Barnabas & Saul, to the elders. |
