Giving Respect to Governing Authorities |
Romans 13:1-14 The Epistle [a.k.a. Letter] of Paul to the Romans [in Smaller Chunks] |
Let [everyone] be subject to, [a.k.a. under the control of,] the higher, [a.k.a. governing,] powers. For there is no power, [except from] God: the powers that [are] ordained, [a.k.a. appointed, by] God. |
Therefore, [whoever resists, a.k.a. opposes,] the [governing] [power's] [authority,] [resists] the [ordinances, a.k.a. rules,] of God. And [those, who] resist, shall receive [condemnation, for] themselves. |
For rulers aren't a terror to [those, who do] good works, [a.k.a. deeds,] but to [those, who do] evil. [Won't] you then, not be afraid of the power, [a.k.a. authority?] Do [what] is good, & you shall have praise [from] [those who do] the same. |
For [the authority] is a minister of God, to you for good. But if you do [what] is evil, be afraid. For he [doesn't carry] a sword in vain, [a.k.a. for no purpose.] For he is the minister of God, [an avenger,] to execute, [a.k.a. carry out,] wrath, upon [those who do] [what is:] evil. |
[For this reason, you [need] [to] be subject [to their authority,] not only for [anger's] [sake,] but also for [the] sake [of your] [conscience.] [Acts 24:16 And I do exercise myself [in this] to always have a conscience [without] offense toward God, & toward men.] |
For this [reason,] you [shall] also pay tribute, [a.k.a. taxes.] For they are God's ministers, continually attending [to] this very thing. |
Therefore, render, [a.k.a. give,] to all [whom] [these are] [due: taxes] to whom [taxes] are due; [customs, a.k.a. taxes on imported goods,] to whom [customs] [are due,] fear, to whom fear [is due,] & [honor] to whom [honor] [is due.] |
Owe no man anything, but love to one another. For he, [who loves] another [has fulfilled] the Law. [Leviticus 19:18 You [shall] not avenge, nor bear, [a.k.a. carry,] any grudge against the children of your people, but you [shall] love your neighbor as yourself. I Am the Lord.] |
[Also] this: You [shall] not commit adultery; You [shall] not kill; You [shall] not steal; You [shall] not bear false witness, [a.k.a. falsely testify;] You [shall] not covet, [a.k.a. envy;] and if there [are] any other [commandments] it is briefly [understood by] this saying, namely, You [shall] love your neighbor as yourself. |
[Mark 12:29-31 And Jesus answered him, Hear O Israel, The first of all the commandments is: The Lord our God is One Lord. And you [shall] love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, & with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, You [shall] love your neighbor as yourself. There [are no] other [commandments] greater, [a.k.a. more significant,] than these.] |
Love [works, a.k.a. brings about,] no ill [will] to his neighbor. Therefore, love [fulfills] the Law. And knowing that, it is now high time to awake out of sleep. For now, our Salvation [is] nearer than when we believed. |
[1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 For [you,] yourselves know perfectly [well] that the day of the Lord, [also] comes [like] a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace & safety; then sudden destruction [comes] upon them, [like labor pains,] upon a [pregnant] woman; & they shall not escape. But you, brethren, [a.k.a. fellow-believers,] are not in darkness, [so] that that day should over take you [like] a thief.] |
The night is far spent, [a.k.a. almost over,] & the day is at hand, therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness, & let us put on the armour of Light. [1 Thessalonians 5:8-10 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breast-plate of faith & love. And for a helmet, the hope of Salvation. For God [hasn't] appointed us to wrath, but [God has appointed us] to obtain Salvation [through] our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, [so] that whether we [are] [awake, a.k.a. alive,] or sleep, [a.k.a. die,] we should live together with [the Lord God.] |
Let us walk, [a.k.a. follow,] honestly, [like during] the day; & not in: rioting; [being drunk; going from bedroom to bedroom;] strife, [a.k.a. discord,] & envying, [a.k.a. greed.] |
But you put on the Lord Jesus Christ, & [don't] make [provisions, a.k.a. arrangements,] for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts [of the flesh.] [Ephesians 4:22-24 [About] the [previous] conversion, that you put off the old man, which is corrupt, according to [its] deceitful lusts, & be renewed in the Spirit [within] your mind. And that you put on the new man, which [according] [to] God is created in righteousness & true holiness.] |
