The Triumphant Song of Deborah & Barak |
Judges 5:1-31 The Book of Judges [in Smaller Chunks] |
Then, Deborah & Barak [Abinoam’s] son, sang, on that day. [Judges 4:4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.] [They sang,] Praise the Lord for avenging Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves. |
[2 Chronicles 17:16 And next [to] him was Amasiah, [Zichri’s] son, who willingly offered himself to the Lord & with him, 200,000 mighty men of valor.] |
Hear & [listen,] O you kings & princes & I, even I, will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel. Lord, when You went out of Seir & when You marched out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled & the heavens dropped & the clouds also dropped [rain.] |
[Deuteronomy 33:2 And [Moses] said, The Lord came from Sinai & rose up from Seir to them. He shined [out] from Mount Paran & He came with 10,000’s of saints & from His right hand went a fiery law for them.] |
The mountains & even [Mount Sinai] melted before the Lord God of Israel. [Exodus 19:18 And Mount Sinai was altogether [smoking,] because the Lord [came down] upon it in fire. And the smoke [of it went up, like] the smoke of a furnace & the whole mountain greatly quaked.] |
The highways weren’t occupied, [so] the travelers walked through the byways in the days of Shamgar, [Anath’s] son. [Judges 3:30-31 so Moab was [defeated] that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest 80 years. And after him, was Shamgar, [Anath’s] son, [who killed] 600 men with a [cow prod.] And he also delivered Israel.] |
[Also, the highways weren’t occupied, [so] the travelers walked through the byways] in the days of Jael. [Judges 4:22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him & said to him, Come & I will show you the man whom you seek. |
And when [Barak] came into her tent, [he saw] Sisera lay dead & the [tent] nail was in his temples.] |
The inhabitants of the villages ceased & they ceased in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, as a mother in Israel. They chose new gods. Then, war was [within] their gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among the 40,000 in Israel? |
[Deuteronomy 32:17-18 They sacrificed to [demons,] not to God. To gods whom they [didn’t] know. To new gods that came up [recently,] whom your [forefathers didn’t] fear [respect.] You [aren’t mindful] of the Rock that [Fathered] you & you have forgotten God, [Who] formed you.] |
My heart is [with] the governors [who] willingly offered themselves among the people. Bless the Lord. You, [who] ride on white [donkeys,] speak & sit in judgment & walk by the [road.] |
[Judges 12:13-14 And after him, Abdon, [Hillel’s] son, a Pirathonite, judged Israel. And he had 40 sons & 30 nephews, [who] rode on 46 [donkey] colts & he judged Israel 8 years.] |
[Those who] are delivered from the noise of the [archers] in the places [they draw] water, shall rehearse the righteous [actions] of the Lord there. Even [the Lord’s] righteous [actions] toward the inhabitants of His villages in Israel. |
Then, shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates. Awake, Deborah, awake & utter a song. Arise, Barak & lead yours [in] captivity [held] captive, you son of Abinoam. Then, He made [him who] remained have [control] over the nobles among the people. The Lord made me have [control] over the mighty. |
A root [from] Ephraim was against Amalek. After you, [was] Benjamin among your people. Out of Machir, the [rulers] came down & out of Zebulun [those scribes who] handle the [writer’s] pen. |
Even Issachar & [his] princes were with Deborah & also Barak, [who] was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben [had great indecision.] Why did you [stay in safety] among the sheep [pens] to hear the bleatings of the flocks? |
[There was great indecision] among the divisions of Reuben. Gilead [sayed safely] beyond [the] Jordan [River] & why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore & [stayed] in his breaches. |
Zebulun & Naphtali were [the] people [who jeopardized] their own lives to the point of] death, on the high places of the [battlefields.] The kings came & fought & then fought [Canaanite’s] kings in Taanach by the waters of Migiddo & they [gained no plunder.] |
They fought from heaven. The stars [in their orbits] fought against Sisera. The ancient River of Kishon swept them away. O my soul, [you have trampled] down strength. |
[Judges 4:7 And I will draw you to the River Kishon, Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots & his multitude & I will deliver him into your hand.] |
Then, [the horse’s hooves] were broken [from the continued hard galloping] by the mighty ones [of Sisera.] The Angel of the Lord said, Bitterly curse you Meroz & [their] inhabitants [of it,] because they [didn’t] come to the help of the Lord against the mighty. |
Jael, [Heber’s] wife, the Kenite, [is] blessed above all women. She shall be blessed above all women in [a] tent. [Sisera] asked [her for] water & she gave him milk & brought [out] butter in a lordly dish. |
[When he was asleep,] she put [in] her hand [a tent] nail & [in] her right hand a workmen’s hammer & she [struck Sisera’s] head, when she had pierced & [struck] through his temples. At her feet, [Sisera] bowed, fell & lay down dead there. |
The mother of Sisera looked out a window [crying,] through the lattice, Why is his chariot [taking] so long in coming [here?] Why [do its] chariot wheels [delay?] Her [wisest] ladies answered her & she [answered] herself. |
Haven’t they [hurried?] Haven’t they divided the [plunder &] to every man a damsel or 2 & to Sisera [plunder] of needlework on both sides with diverse colors [well suited] for the necks [of those who take plunder?] |
O Lord, let all Your enemies perish, but let [those who] love You, be [like] the sun when it goes [out] in [its] might. The land had rest [& peace for] 40 years. |
