David is Anointed King Over Israel |
2 Samuel 5:1-25 The Book of 2 Samuel [in Smaller Chunks] |
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David [in] Hebron & [spoke,] saying, [Look,] we are your flesh & bone. In [the] past [times,] when Saul was king over us, you [were] he, [who] led Israel out [to battle] & [brought] [us back] in [again.] |
And the Lord said to you, You shall feed My people, Israel, & you [shall] be a captain, [a.k.a. ruler,] over Israel. So, all the elders of Israel came to the king [in] Hebron; & king David made a [pact] with them in Hebron before the Lord. |
And they anointed David king over Israel. When David was 30 years old, he began to [rule,] & he [ruled] 40 years. In Hebron, [David ruled] 7 1/2 years over Judah, & in Jerusalem, he [ruled] over all: Israel & Judah 33 years, [40 years total.] |
And king [David,] & his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites, [who inhabited] the land, [who spoke] to David, saying, [Unless] you take away the blind & the lame, you [shall] not come in [here:] thinking, David [couldn’t] come in [there.] |
[However,] David [captured] the strong hold, [a.k.a. fortress,] of Zion, [which] is the city of David. And David said on that day, [Whoever gets] up to the [guttering,] & [attacks] the Jebusites, & the lame & blind, [who] are hated, [a.k.a. despised, by] David, shall be the chief, [a.k.a. leader,] & captain. |
[For this reason] they said, The blind & the lame shall not come into the [Lord's] house. [Leviticus 21:21-23 No man, [who has] a blemish, [from] the seed, [a.k.a. descendants,] of Aaron, the priest, shall come [close] to offer the offerings [for] the Lord, made by fire. He, [who] [has] a blemish, shall not come [near] to offer the bread of his God. He shall eat the bread of his God, both: the Most Holy, & the Holy. Only he shall not go in [within] the [veil,] nor come [near] to the altar, because he [has] a blemish, [a.k.a. a defect, so] that he [doesn't defile] My sanctuaries. For I, the Lord, do sanctify them.] |
So, David [lived] in the [fortress,] & called it the city of David. And David built [around it] from Milo & inward. And David went on, & grew great, & the Lord God of Hosts was with him. And Hiram, [Tyre’s] king, sent: messengers, cedar trees, carpenters & masons, to David, & they built David [a] house. |
And David [realized] that the Lord [God] had established him [as] king over Israel, & that [God] had exalted his kingdom for His people, Israel’s sake. And David took more wives & [mistresses for himself,] out of Jerusalem, after he [had] come from Hebron. And there were [still] [more] sons & daughters born to David. |
These [are] the names of those [children,] [who] were born to [David] in Jerusalem: Shammuah, Shobab, Nathan, & Solomon. Also, Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada & Eliphalet. |
But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to [search for] David. And David heard of it, & he went down to the hold, [a.k.a. David's safe place of refuge.] |
The Philistines also came & spread themselves [out] in the Valley of Rephaim. And David [inquired from] the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? [Will] You deliver them into [my] hand? |
And the Lord said to David, Go up, for I will [certainly] deliver the Philistines into your hand. And David came to Baal Perazim & [defeated] them there, & said, The Lord [has] broken [out] upon [my] enemies, [in front of] me, like the waters [raging through] [a break.] |
Therefore, [David] called that place Baal Perazim. And [the Philistines] left their images, [a.k.a. idols,] there, & David & his men burned them. [Still,] the Philistines came up again, & spread themselves [out] in the Valley of Rephaim. |
And when David [inquired from] the Lord, He said, You [shall] not go up, but [circle around] behind them, & come upon them, over [next to] the mulberry trees [a.k.a balsam trees.] |
And let it be known, when you [hear] the sound [like marching] in the tops of the mulberry trees, [be ready,] for then, the Lord shall go out before you, to [strike down] the [Philistine army.] And David did so, [like] the Lord had commanded him, & [struck down] the Philistines from Geba [all the way] to Gazer [a.k.a. Gezer.] |
