Micah Takes Back His Mother’s Silver |
Judges 17:1-13 The Book of Judges [in Smaller Chunks] |
There was a man [from] Mount Ephraim, whose name was Micah. He said to his mother, I took [back] the 1,100 shekels of silver that were taken from you, [that] you [cursed,] & [spoke about privately to me.] [Look,] the silver is with me. |
And [Micah's] mother said, Blessed [are] you of the Lord, my son. And when [Micah returned] the money, [a.k.a. 1,100 shekels of silver,] to his mother, [she] said, I had [totally] dedicated the sliver to the Lord for my son, to make a [carved] image & a [molded] image. [Leviticus 19:4 You [shall] not turn to idols, nor make [for] yourselves [molded] gods. I Am the Lord your God.] |
Therefore I will restore it to you now. [Micah] restored the money to his mother, yet [she] took 200 shekels of silver, & gave them to the founder, [a.k.a. silversmith,] who made an [carved] image & a [molded] image. [1 Chronicles 16:25-26 For great is the Lord, & [is] to be praised greatly. He is also to be feared, [a.k.a. respected,] above all gods. For all the gods of the people are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.] |
They were in the house of Micah, the man, [who] had a house, [a.k.a. temple,] of gods, & made an ephod, [a.k.a. decorative vest often worn by the high priest,] & a teraphim, [a.k.a. household idol,] & [appointed] 1 of his sons, who became his priest. |
In those days, there was no king in Israel, but every man did [what] was right in his own eyes. And there was a young man out of Bethlehem Judah [from] the family of Judah, who was a Levite, & he [temporarily stayed] there. |
And the man [left] from Bethlehem Judah to [stay] where he could find a place. And he came to Mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, [on] his [journey.] And Micah said to him, [From where did] you [come?] |
And [the man] said to him, I am a Levite of Bethlehem Judah, & I go to [stay] [wherever] I may find a place. And Micah said to him, [Stay] with me & be to me [like] a father & a priest, & I will give you 10 shekels of silver, a suit of [clothing,] & your [food each] year. |
So, the Levite went in & was content to [live] with [Micah.] The young man was [like] one of his sons to him. And Micah consecrated, [a.k.a. dedicated,] the young man [who was a] Levite, & became his priest & was in the house of Micah. Then, Micah said, Now I know that the Lord will do good [to] me, [since] I have a Levite [as] my priest. |
