The Lord God had Compassion on His People & Sent Prophets |
2 Chronicles 36:1-23 2 Chronicles in [Smaller Chunks] |
Then, the people of the land took Jehoahaz, [Josiah's] son & made him king in his father's [place] in Jerusalem. Jehoahaz, was 23 years old when he began to [rule] & he [ruled] 3 months in Jerusalem. |
And [Egypt's] king [dethroned] Jehoahaz [in] Jerusalem & [imposed a levy] on Jerusalem of 100 talents of silver & 1 talent of gold. And [Egypt's] king made Eliakim, his brother, king over Judah & Jerusalem, and turned his name to Jehoiakim. |
And Necho took [Jehoiakim's] brother, Jehoahaz & carried him [off] to Egypt. Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he began to [rule] & he [ruled] 11 years in Jerusalem. And he did [what] was evil in the sight of the Lord his God. |
[Jeremiah 21:9 Then, they shall answer, Because they have [abandoned] the Covenant [contract] of the Lord, their God & worshiped other gods & served them.] Nebuchadnezzar, [Babylon's] king, came up against him & bound him in [shackles] to [take] him to Babylon. |
Nebuchadnezzar also carried [off] the vessels [from the Lord's] house to Babylon & put them in his temple in Babylon. Now, the rest of [Jehoiakim's actions] & his abominations [that] he did & [what] was found in him, [look,] they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel & Judah & Jehoiachin, his son [ruled] in his [place.] |
Jehoiachin was 8 [or 18] years old when he began to [rule] & he [ruled] 3 months & 10 days in Jerusalem: & he did [wht] was evil in the sight of the Lord. [2 Kings 24:8 Johoiachin was 18 years old when he began to [rule] & he [ruled] 3 months. And his mother’s name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.] |
And when the year was [over,] king Nebuchadnezzar sent [for] & brought [Jehoiachin] to Babylon, with the [beautiful] vessels [from the Lord's] house & made Zedekiah, his brother, king over Judah & Jerusalem. |
Zedekiah was 21 years old when he began to [rule] & he [ruled] 11 years in Jerusalem. And he did [what] was evil in the sight of the Lord, his God & [he didn't] humble himself before Jeremiah, the prophet, [who spoke by] the mouth of the Lord. |
[Jeremiah 44:4-5 [However] I sent to you all My servants, the prophets, rising early & sending them, saying, Oh [don’t] do this abominable thing that I hate. But they [didn’t pay attention,] nor [did they lean] their ear, to turn away from their wickedness, to [not] burn incense to other gods.] |
And [Zedekiah] also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God. But he stiffened his neck [a.k.a. stubbornness] & hardened his heart from turning to the Lord God of Israel. |
[Also,] all the chief priests & the people [sinned] very much after all the abominations of the heathen & polluted [a.k.a. defiled] the [Lord's] house, which He had [consecrated] in Jerusalem. |
And the Lord God of their [forefathers] had compassion on His people & on His dwelling place & sent them His messengers, rising up early, but they mocked the messengers of God & despised His words & [mistreated] His prophets, until the [anger] of the Lord [rose] against His people until there was no remedy. |
[Matthew 23:34 [Because of this, I sent to you prophets, wise men & scribes & some of them you shall kill & crucify. And some of them you shall [whip] in your synagogues & persecute them from city to city.] |
Therefore, [God] brought upon them the king of the [Caldeans, a.k.a. Babylonians,] who [killed] their young men with swords in their sanctuary & had no compassion on [a] young man, maiden, old man, or [even] him, [who] stooped [with] age. [God] gave them all into his hand. |
And all the vessels & treasures [large] & small of the house of the Lord God & the [king's & prince's] treasures, he brought to Babylon. And they burnt the house of God & [broke] down the [walls] of Jerusalem & burnt [its] palaces with fire. They destroyed all [its desirable] vessels. |
[Those who] escaped from the sword, [the king] carried away to Babylon, where they were his & his son’s servants until the reign of the kingdom of Persia, to fulfill the [Lord’s] Word, by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed [its] Sabbaths: for as long as [it] lay desolate [a.k.a. fallow,] she kept [its] Sabbaths, to fulfill 70 years. |
Now, in the 1st year of Cyrus, [Persia’s] king, to accomplish the Word of the Lord, spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord [moved] the spirit of Cyrus, [Persia’s] king, [so] that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom & also put it in writing. |
[It said,] King Cyrus of Persia [says this,] The Lord God of heaven [has] given me, all the kingdoms of the earth. He has [appointed me in charge of building] Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who among you, is of [the Lord God’s] people? [May] the Lord his God be with him & let him go up. |
[Ezra 1:3 Who is there among you of all His people? [May] his God be with him & let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah & build the house of the Lord God of Israel, (He is the God,) [Who] is in Jerusalem.] |
