Jesus Speaks from a Ship in Parables to the Multitudes on the Shore |
Matthew 13:1-58 The Gospel According to Matthew [in Smaller Chunks] |
Jesus went out of the house the same day, & sat by the seaside. And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He went into a ship, & sat. And the whole multitude stood on the shore. And He [spoke] many things to them in parables. |
Saying, [See,] a sower, [a.k.a. farmer,] went [out] to sow. And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the [road] side, & the [birds] came & devoured them up. Some fell upon [rocky] places, where they [didn't have] much [ground.] And [immediately] they [sprang] up, because they had no deepness of [soil.] |
And when the sun was up, they were scorched. And they withered away, because they had no root. And some fell among thorns, & the thorns sprung up, & choked them. But [others] fell into good ground, & [produced] fruit, some 100 fold, some 60 fold, & some 30 fold. Who has ears to hear, let him hear. |
And the disciples came & said to Him, Whey [do] You speak to them in parables? He answered & said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven, but it isn't given to them. |
[Matthew 11:25 At that time, Jesus answered & said, O Father, I thank You, Lord of heaven & earth, because You [have hidden] these things from the wise & [shrewd,] & [have] revealed them to babes.] |
For [whoever] has, to him shall be given, & he shall have more abundance. But [whoever] has not, from him shall be taken away, even [what] he [has.] Therefore, I speak to them in parables: because they [who are] seeing, [don't] see; & hearing, [don't] hear, & neither do they understand. |
*And in them the prophecy of [Isaiah] is fulfilled. [who said,] By hearing, you shall hear, & shall not understand; & seeing, you shall see, & not perceive, [a.k.a. recognize.] [Isaiah 6:9-10 *And [the Lord] said, Go, & tell this people, Indeed you hear, but [don't] understand; & you indeed see, but don't perceive. *Make the [hearts] of this people fat, & make their ears heavy, lest they see with their eyes, & hear with their ears, & understand with their heart, & convert, & [are] healed.] |
For this people's heart [has grown [coarse,] & their ears are [hard] of hearing, & they have closed their eyes; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, & hear with their ears, & should understand with their heart, & should be converted, & I should heal them. |
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: & your ears, for they hear. For [truly] I say to you, That many prophets & righteous men have desired to see those things, [that] you see, & haven't seen them; & to hear those things, [that] you hear, & haven't heard them. |
Therefore, you, hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the Word of the Kingdom, & [doesn't] understand it, then the wicked one comes, & [snatches] away, [what] was sown in his heart. This is he, [who] received seed by the [road] side. |
But he, [who] received the seed into [rocky] places, the same is he, [who] hears the Word, & receives it [briefly] with joy. [Still,] he [doesn't] have root [within] himself, but [endures] for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises, because of the Word, he is offended by & by. |
He, [who] also received seed among the thorns, is he, [who hears] the Word; & the [cares] of this world, & the deceitfulness of riches, choke the Word, & he becomes [unproductive.] |
But, he, [who] received seed into the good ground, is he, [who] hears the Word, & understands it, & [who] also [bears] fruit, & [produces,] some 100 fold, some 60 [fold]& some 30 [fold.] |
[Jesus] put [out] another parable to them, saying, The Kingdom of heaven is [similar] to a man, [who] sowed good seed in his field. But while men slept, his enemy came & sowed tares, [a.k.a. weeds,] among the wheat, & went [on] his way. |
But when the [blades had] sprung up, & [produced] fruit, then the [weeds] also appeared. So, the servants of the [house owner] came & said to him, Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Then, from [where] has it [weeds?] He said to them, An enemy [has] done this. |
The servants said to him, Then, [do] you [want] that we go & gather them up? But he said, [No,] lest while you gather up the [weeds,] you also [uproot] the wheat with them. Let both grow together, until the harvest. |
And [during] the time of harvest, I will say to the reapers, You, gather together 1st the [weeds,] & [tie] them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into My barn. |
He put [out] another parable to them, saying, The Kingdom of heaven is [similar] to a grain of mustard seed, [that] a man took, & sowed in his field: which indeed is the least, [a.k.a. smallest] of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the [largest] among herbs, & becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come & lodge in [its] branches. |
And He [spoke] another parable to them; The Kingdom of heaven is [similar] to leaven, [a.k.a. yeast,] which a woman took, & hid [it] in 3 measures of meal, [a.k.a. flour, or cornmeal, until] the whole [dough] was leavened. |
Jesus [spoke] all these things to the multitude in parables, & He [didn't speak] without a parable to them, *[So] that it might be fulfilled, [what] was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open My mouth in parables; & I will utter things [that] have been kept secret [since] the foundation of the world. |
[Psalm 78:1-2 O My people, give ear, [a.k.a. listen,] to My Law. [Lean] your ears to the Words of My mouth. *I will open My mouth in a parable: & I will utter dark sayings of old.] |
Then, Jesus sent the multitude away, & went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, Declare to us the parable of the [weeds in] the field. He answered & said to them, The Son of Man is He, [who sows] the good seed. The field is the world; & the good seed are the children [people] of the kingdom. |
But the tares, [a.k.a. weeds,] are the children [people] of the wicked one. The enemy, [who] sowed them, is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world; & the reapers are the Angels. |
[Revelation 14:18-19 And another Angel came out from the altar, [who] had power over fire; & cried [out] with a loud [out] cry to him, [who] had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in your sharp sickle, & gather the clusters of the vine [from] the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the Angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, & gathered the vine [from] the earth, & cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.] |
Therefore, [like] the [weeds] are gathered & burned in the fire, so shall it be [at] the end of this world. The Son of Man shall send [out] His Angels, & they shall gather [from] His kingdom all things that offend, & [those who] do iniquity, [a.k.a wickedness.] |
[Proverbs 24:19-20 [Don't worry] yourself, because of evil men, & neither [should] you be envious [of] the wicked. For there shall be no reward to the evil man, & the candle of the wicked shall be put out.] |
The Son of Man shall send [out] His Angels, & they shall gather out of His Kingdom, all things that offend, & [those who] do [wickedly.] [Revelation 20:12-15 And I saw the dead, [powerless] & [powerful,] stand [in front of] God. |
And the books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of those things [that] were written in the books, according to their works, [a.k.a. deeds.] And the sea gave up the dead, which were in it. And Death & Hell delivered up the dead, which were in them. |
And every man [was] judged, according to their [deeds.] And Death & Hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the 2nd death. And [whoever] wasn't found written in the Book of Life, was cast into the Lake of Fire.] |
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire; & there shall be wailing & gnashing of teeth. Then, the righteous shall shine [out like] the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Who has ears to hear, let him hear. |
Again, the Kingdom of heaven is [similar] to treasure [hidden] in a field; which when a man has found [it,] he [hides] [it,] & for joy [of it, goes] & [sells] all that he [has,] & [buys] that field. |
Again, the Kingdom of heaven is [similar] to a merchant man, seeking [beautiful] pearls. Who, when he had found 1 pearl of great [value,] went & sold all that he had, & bought it. |
Again, the Kingdom of heaven is [similar] to a net, & gathered of every kind. Which, when [the net] was full, they drew [it] to shore, & sat down, & gathered the good into vessels, but cast away the bad. It shall be so at the end of the world. |
The Angels shall come [out,] & sever, [a.k.a. cut off,] the wicked, from among the just, & shall cast them into the furnace of fire. There shall be wailing & gnashing of teeth. |
Jesus [asked] them, Have you understood all these things? They [said] to Him, [Yes,] Lord. Then, He said to them, Therefore, every scribe, [who] is instructed [until] the Kingdom of heaven, is [similar] to a man, [who] is a [house owner, who] brings new & old things out of his treasure. |
And it [happened,] that when Jesus had finished these parables, He [left from there.] And when He [had] come into His Own country, He taught them in their synagogue, [in] that, they were astonished, & said, [From where has] this Man, this wisdom, & these mighty works, [a.k.a. Miracles?] |
Isn't this the carpenter's Son? Isn't His mother called Mary? And His brethren, [a.k.a. brothers,] [aren't they:] James; Joses, [a.k.a. Joseph or John;] Simon; & Judas? And His sisters, aren't they all with us? [From where] then, [has] this Man all these things? |
[Matthew 11:2-5 Now, when in the prison, John [the Baptist,] had heard the works, [a.k.a. Miracles,] of Christ, he sent 2 of his disciples. And [they] said to Him, [Are] You, He, [Who] should come, or do we look for another? |
Jesus answered & said to them, *Go & [declare to] John again, those things which you hear & see. The blind receive their sight, & the lame walk. The lepers are cleansed, & the deaf hear. The dead are raised up, & the poor have the gospel preached to them.] |
And they were offended [with] Him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet isn't without honor, [except] in His Own country, & in His Own house. And He didn't [do] many mighty works, [a.k.a. Miracles,] there, because of their unbelief. |
