Bringing the Ark of God to the City of David |
1 Chronicles 15:1-29 1 Chronicles in [Smaller Chunks] |
David made [himself] houses in the city of David & prepared a place for the Ark of God & pitched a tent for it. Then, David said, [No one should] carry the Ark of God, [except] the Levites. |
For the Lord has chosen them to carry the Ark of God & to minister to Him forever. And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring the Ark of the Lord [into its] place, which he had prepared for it. |
And David assembled the [descendants] of Aaron & the Levites. [From Kohath's descendants:] Uriel, the chief [leader] & 120 [of] his [relatives.] [From Merari’s descendants:] Asaiah, the chief [leader] & 120 [of] his [relatves.] [From the descendants of Gershom, a.k.a. Gershon:] Joel, the chief [leader] & 130 [relatives.] |
[From Elizaphan's descendants;] Shemaiah, the chief [leader] & 200 [relatives.] [From Hebron's descendants;] Eliel, the chief [leader] & 80 [relatives.] [From [Uzziel's descendants;] Amminadab, the chief [leader] & 112 [relatives.] |
And David called for Zadok & Abiathar, the priests, [& called] for the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel & Amminadab & said to them, You are the chief [leaders] of the [Levite’s forefathers.] |
Sanctify yourselves, both you & your [relatives, so] you may bring up the Ark of the Lord God of Israel [into] the place that I have prepared for it. [Since,] you didn't [do] it the 1st [time] & the Lord, our God [broke out in anger] upon us, [because we didn't seek] Him [about how to do it properly.] |
So, the priests & Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the Ark of the Lord God of Israel. The children [people] of the Levites [carried] the Ark of God upon their shoulders with the [poles upon them, like] Moses commanded according to the Word of the Lord. |
And David [spoke] to the chief [leaders] of the Levites to appoint their [relatives] to be the singers with the [musicians] of instruments, [lyres,] harps & cymbals [& singing,] by lifting up [their voices] with joy [loudly.] |
So, the Levites appointed Heman, [Joel's] sons & [from] his [relatives:] Asaph, son of Berechiah, [a.k.a. Berekiah] & [from their relatives] of the sons of Merari, Ethan, [Kushaiah's] son. |
And with them, their [relatives next in rank:] Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Uni, [a.k.a. Unni,] Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Elipheleh, [a.k.a. Eliphelehu,] Mikneiah, Obed Edom & Jeiel, the [gate keepers.] |
So, the singers: Heman, Asaph & Ethan were appointed to [play] the brass cymbals. And Zechariah, Aziel, [a.k.a. Jaaziel,] Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, [a.ka. Uni,] Eliab, Maaseiah, [a.k.a. Manasseh,] Benaiah [were to play a song upon] Alamoth with [lyres.] |
And Mattithiah, Elipheleh, [a.k.a. Eliphelehu,] Mikneiah, Obed Edom, Jeiel & Azaziah, [played] with harps [while the men excel by singing the lowest notes possible.] And Chenaniah, [a.k.a. Kenaniah, the Levite music director,] he instructed about [singing,] because he was skilful. |
And Berechiah, [a.k.a. Berekiah] & Elkanah, [a.k.a. Elkanan,] were [the] door keepers for the Ark. and Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, [a.k.a. Joshaphat,] Nethaneel, [a.k.a. Nethanel,] Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah & Eliezer, the priests, [were to blow] the trumpets [in front of] the Ark of God. |
And Obed Edom & Jehiah were [also the] door keepers for the Ark. So, David & the elders of Israel, the captains over 1,000's, went to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord out of the house of Obed Edom with joy. |
And it [happened,] when God helped the Levites [who carried] the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, they offered 7 bulls & 7 rams. |
And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen & [also] all the Levites [who carried] the Ark, the singers [& musicians] & Chenaniah, [a.k.a. Kenaniah,] the [music director, in charge of the choir of] singers. |
David also [wore] a linen ephod. All Israel brought up the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord [like this] with shouting & [sounds] of [cornets,] trumpets, cymbals, [lyres] & harps [making music.] |
And it [happened,] as the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord came to the city of David, that Michal, [Saul's] daughter, [looked] out a window & saw king David dancing & [celebrating] & she despised him in her heart. |
