Putting the Tabernacle of the Lord Together According to the Lord’s Plan |
Exodus 40:1-37 The Second Book of Moses Called Exodus |
The Lord said to Moses, saying, On the 1st day of the 1st month, you shall set up the Tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. You shall put the Ark of the Testimony [in it] & cover the Ark with a [veil] & bring in the table & [put] in order the things that are to be set upon it. |
You shall bring in the candlestick & light [its] lamps. You shall set the altar of gold for the incense [in front of] the Ark of the Testimony & put [up] the hanging [screen for] the door to the Tabernacle. [Then,] you shall set the altar of the burnt offering [in front of] the door of the Tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. |
You shall set the [basin & its base] between the tent of the congregation & the altar & put water [in it] & set up [all around] the [courtyard] & hang up the hanging [screen] at the [courtyard] gate. |
And you shall take the anointing oil & anoint the Tabernacle & all that is [in it] & shall hallow it & all [its] vessels [utensils] & it shall be holy. You shall anoint the altar of the burnt offering & all [its] vessels [utensils] & sanctify the altar. The altar shall be most holy. |
You shall anoint the [basin] & [its base] & sanctify it. You shall bring Aaron & his sons to the door of the Tabernacle of the congregation & wash them with water. You shall put on Aaron the holy garments & anoint & sanctify him, [so] that he may minister to Me in the priest’s office. |
You shall bring [Aaron’s] sons & clothe them with coats & you shall anoint them, as you [anointed] their father, that they may minister to Me in the priest’s office; for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. |
[This] Moses did; according to all that the Lord commanded him & he did so. It came to pass in the 1st month of the 2nd year, on the 1st day of the month, that the Tabernacle was [raised] up. So Moses [raised] up the Tabernacle, fastened [its] sockets, set up [its] boards, put in [its] bars & raised up [its] pillars. |
And [Moses] spread [out] the tent over the Tabernacle & put the covering of the tent [on top of] it, as the Lord commanded Moses. [Moses] put the Testimony into the Ark & [inserted] the [poles] through the rings of the Ark & put the mercy seat [on top] of the Ark. |
He brought the Ark into the Tabernacle & set up the [veil] of the covering & covered the Ark of the Testimony, as the Lord commanded Moses. He put the table in the tent of the congregation on the [north] side of the Tabernacle [outside] the [veil.] |
He set the bread in order upon [the table] before the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses. He put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table on the [south side] of the Tabernacle. He [lit] the lamps before the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses. |
He put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation [in front of] the [veil] & he burned sweet incense [on it,] as the Lord had commanded Moses. He set up the hanging [screen] at the door of the Tabernacle. |
He put the altar of burnt offering at the door of the Tabernacle, of the tent of the congregation & offered upon it the burnt offering & meat offering; as the Lord commanded Moses. |
And he set the [basin] & [its base] between the tent of the congregation & the altar & put water there [for washing] & Moses, Aaron & his sons washed their hands & feet with water [there.] |
[Whenever] they went into the Tabernacle of the congregation & when they came [near] the altar, they washed; as the Lord commanded Moses. He [raised] up the [courtyard all around] the Tabernacle & the altar & set up the hanging [screen] of the [courtyard] gate. So Moses finished the work. |
Then, a cloud covered the tent of the congregation & the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle. Moses wasn’t able to enter the tent of the congregation, because the cloud [rested above it] & the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle. |
[Whenever] the cloud was taken up from over the Tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they didn’t journey till the day that it was taken up. |
For the cloud of the Lord was upon the Tabernacle by day & fire was [over it] by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. |
