The Firstborn of Israelites & Animals Are the Lord’s |
Exodus 13:1-22 The Second Book of Moses Called Exodus |
The Lord [said] to Moses, Sanctify to Me all the firstborn of children of Israel, both man & [animals are] Mine. Moses said to the people, Remember this day, in the month of Abib, [that] the Lord brought you out of the house of bondage in Egypt [with a strong] hand. No leavened bread shall be eaten. |
You [should continue] to do this when the Lord brings you to the land of Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites & Jebusites, which He [swore] to your [forefathers] to give you a land flowing with milk & honey] & you shall keep this service in this month. |
[For] 7 days you shall eat unleavened bread & no leaven should be seen in your [houses] & [on] the 7th day; there shall be a feast to the Lord. You shall [tell] your son [on] that day, This is done because of [what] the Lord did for me when I came [forward] out of Egypt. |
It shall be a sign to you upon your hand & a memorial [before] your eyes, that the Lord’s law shall be in your mouth: for with a strong hand, the Lord has brought you out of Egypt & you shall keep this [rule] in this season from year to year. |
When the Lord shall bring you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you & your [forefathers] to give [it to] you, you shall set [aside] for the Lord all the [firstborn] male [animals] that opens the womb. |
The [firstborn] of a [donkey] can be [redeemed by] a lamb & if you [don’t] redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all your firstborn [sons] of your children, you shall redeem. When your son asks you in a time to come, What is this? |
You shall say to him, [The] strength of the hand of the Lord brought us out of the house of bondage from Egypt & [it happened] when Pharaoh was [stubborn] [about letting] us go. |
The Lord [killed] the firstborn in the land of Egypt of both of man & [animals: that's why] I sacrifice to the Lord all the firstborn males that open the [womb,] but I redeem the firstborn of my children. |
It shall be [like a sign] on your hand & [like] frontlets between your eyes; [to remember] the strength of the hand of the Lord [God, Who] brought us out of Egypt. |
It [happened] when Pharaoh had let the [Israelites] go, God didn’t lead them through the land of the Philistines, although that was near, for God said, Lest the people [change their minds] when they see war & return to Egypt. |
[So,] God led them through the [road] of the wilderness [by] the Red Sea & the children of Israel went up [loaded up for a long journey, in orderly ranks] out of the land of Egypt. |
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had sworn to the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you & you shall carry my bones up with you. [So,] they took their journey from Succoth & camped in Etham, [at] the edge of the wilderness. |
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them [on] the way & by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, [so, they could see to] go by day or night. The Lord did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night, from before the [children of Israel.] |
