Pharaoh Didn’t Let the Children of Israel Go, So God Sent Frogs |
Exodus 8:1-32 The Second Book of Moses Called Exodus |
The Lord [spoke] to Moses, Go to Pharaoh & tell him, The Lord says [this,], Let My people go, [so] that they may serve Me. If you refuse to let them go, I will smite all your borders with frogs. |
The river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall come into your house, your [bedroom,] on your bed & into the houses of your servants, on your people, into your ovens & into your kneading [bowls.] The frogs shall come upon you, your people & your servants. |
The Lord [spoke] to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch [out] your hand with your rod over the streams, rivers & ponds & cause the frogs to come up on the land of Egypt. Aaron stretched [out] his hand over the waters of Egypt & the frogs came up & covered the land of Egypt. The magicians of Egypt did [the same] with their enchantments & brought up frogs on the land of Egypt. |
Then, Pharaoh called for Moses & Aaron & said, [Ask] the Lord to take away the frogs from me & my people & I will let the people go & sacrifice to the Lord. And Moses said to Pharaoh, [Do you glorify me now,] when shall I [ask] to destroy the frogs from you & your houses, [so] that they may remain only in the rivers, for you & your servants & for your people? And [Pharaoh] said, Tomorrow. |
And [Moses] said, It will be according to [what you said, so] that you may know that there is [no one] like the Lord our God. And the frogs shall [leave] from you, your houses, your servants & your people. They shall remain only in the river. |
[After] Moses & Aaron [left] from Pharaoh, Moses cried [out] to the Lord, because of the frogs which He had brought against Pharaoh. The Lord did according to the words of Moses & all the frogs died out of the houses, villages & fields. |
And they gathered them together [in] heaps & the land stank. But when Pharaoh saw there was [relief from the frogs,] he hardened his heart & [did not listen to them,] as the Lord had said. |
The Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch out your rod & [strike] the dust of the land, [so] that it may become lice throughout the land of Egypt & they did so. For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod & [struck] the [dirt of the ground] & the dust of the land became lice on man & [animals,] throughout all the land of Egypt. |
The [Egyptian] magicians [tried to do the same] with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they couldn’t, so there [was] lice on man & [animals.] Then, the magicians [told] Pharaoh, This is the finger of God. Pharaoh’s heart was hardened & he did not [pay attention to] them, as the Lord had said. |
The Lord told Moses, Rise up early & stand before Pharaoh when he goes to the water & say to him, The Lord says [this,] Let My people go, [so] that they may serve Me, [or] else if you won’t let My people go, [watch], I will send swarms of flies on you, your servants, your people & into your houses & also the ground [where] they are. |
[On] that day I will [set apart] the land of Goshen where My people dwell, [so] that no flies shall be there; [so] you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth & I will make a division between My people & your people. This sign shall be tomorrow. |
And the Lord did so & [thick] swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, his servant’s houses & into all the land of Egypt & the land was corrupted, [because] of the swarms of flies. |
Pharaoh called for Moses & Aaron & said, Go & sacrifice to your God in the land. [But] Moses said, It isn't [right] to do so, for we [would be sacrificing] the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord, our God. [If we did this in front of the eyes of the Egyptians, wouldn't] they stone us? |
We will go [a] 3 [day] journey into the wilderness & sacrifice to the Lord, our God, as He commanded us. |
And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, [so] that you may sacrifice to the Lord, your God in the wilderness, but they shouldn’t go very far away & [ask God] for me. |
And Moses said, [Look,] I go out from you & I will [ask] the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, his servants & his people tomorrow, but Pharaoh, [don't] deal deceitfully anymore [by] not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord. |
And Moses went out from Pharaoh & [asked] the Lord. And the Lord did according to the word of Moses & He removed all the flies from Pharaoh, his servants & his people & there remained not one. And Pharaoh hardened his heart [again] & would not let the people go. |
