The Lord God Appeared to Solomon a Second Time |
1 Kings 9:1-28 1 Kings [in Smaller Chunks] |
It [happened] when Solomon finished building the house of the Lord & the king’s [palace] & all that Solomon was pleased to do. The Lord appeared to Solomon a 2nd time, [like God] had appeared to him in Gibeon. |
The Lord said to [Solomon], I’ve heard your prayer & your [request] that you made before Me. I have [consecrated this temple] you [have] built, to put My name there forever. My eyes & My heart shall [continually] be there. |
And if you walk before Me [like] David, your father walked, [with an] upright heart of integrity, [doing] all I’ve commanded you & keep My [rules] & My judgments: |
Then, I will establish the throne of your kingdom [in] Israel forever, as I promised David, your father, saying, There shall not fail to be a man [of your family] on the throne of Israel. |
But if you or your children turn [away] from following Mie & won’t keep My commandments & My [rules] I have [put] before you & you go & serve other gods [idols] & worship them: |
Then, I will cut off Israel [from] the land I have given them & I will cast [them] out of My sight & this [temple that] I have [consecrated] for My [name’s sake]. Israel shall be [mocked & ridiculed] among all [the] people. |
Everyone [who] passes by this [holy temple that will become a heap of ruins,] shall [gasp in astonishment & thy shall say, Why has the Lord done [such a terrible thing] to this land & this [temple]? |
They shall answer, Because [the Israelites forgot] the Lord their God, who brought their [forefathers] out of the land of Egypt & [they have turned] to other gods [idols] & have worshiped & served them, |
[So] the Lord brought all this [calamity] upon them [as a consequence for turning to false gods]. It [happened after] 20 years, when Solomon had built [these] 2: the [Lord’s] house & the king’s [palace], |
(Now, Hiram, king of Tyre, had furnished Solomon with [lumber from] cedar & fir trees & [all the] gold [he desired]. Then, Solomon gave Hiram, 20 cities in the land of Galilee. |
Hiram came from Tyre to see the cities Solomon had given him & he wasn’t [pleased with them]. [Hiram] said, What [kind of] cities [are these that] you have given me, my brother? |
[Hiram] called them the land of Cabul, [which] it is called to this day. Hiram sent king [Solomon] 120 talents of gold. [vCalc.com says 120 talents of gold at current U.S. rates is valued at: $243,498,927.] |
The reason King Solomon raised this levy [of workers was] to build the [Lord’s] house, his own [palace], Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo & Gezer. |
Pharaoh, king of Egypt, had [captured & burned] Gezer with fire & [struck down] the Canaanites [who lived] in that city & gave it as a present to his daughter, Solomon’s wife. |
Solomon [rebuilt] Gezer & lower BethHoron, Baalath & Tadmor in the land [of] the wilderness. All [these] cities, Solomon [stored things] & cities for his chariots & horsemen [that] Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, Lebanon & all the land [that he ruled]. |
And all the [remaining] Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites & Jebusites & their children [who remained in the land] after them [who weren’t totally] destroyed & weren’t of the children [people] of Israel, Solomon [made] a levy of [bond servants] to this day. |
Solomon didn’t make the [people] of Israel [bond servants,] but they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains & rulers of his chariots & horsemen. |
These were the [550] chief officers over Solomon’s work & over the people [who did] the work. Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of the city of David [Jerusalem] to her house [that] Solomon had [built] for her. Then, [Solomon] built Millo. |
3 times a year, Solomon [offered] burnt offerings & peace offerings on the altar [that] he built to the Lord. He [also burned] Incense on the altar that was before the Lord. So, [Solomon] finished the house. |
King Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion Geber, beside Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. |
Hiram sent his servants & [sailors who] had knowledge of the sea, [to serve] with the servants of Solomon [as] the navy. They came to Ophir & [brought out] 420 talents of gold & [took] it to king Solomon. |
