Ahaziah Sends to Ask an Idol if He Will Get Well |
2 Kings 1:1-18 2 Kings [in Smaller Chunks] |
After the death of Ahab, [Israel's] king, Moab rebelled against Israel. Ahaziah, [Ahab's son,] fell down through the lattice into his [upstairs room] in Samaria & was sick. [Ahaziah] sent messengers & said to them, Go inquire of Baal Zebub, the [false] god of Ekron, whether I shall recover [from] this disease. |
But the Angel of the Lord said to Elijah, the Tishbite, Arise & go up to meet the messenger of [Ahaziah, Samaria's] king & say to them, Isn't there a God in Israel & [still] you [are going] to inquire of Baal Zebub, the [false] god of Ekron? |
Therefore, the Lord says [this,] You shall not come down from that bed [you're lying on] & shall surely die. And Elijah [left]. When the messengers [returned to Ahaziah,] he [asked,] Why [did] you [come back]? |
They said to [Ahaziah] A man came up to meet us & said, Go, [return] to the king [who] sent you & say to him,The Lord says [this,] Isn't there a God in Israel & [still] you send to inquire of Baal Zebub, the [false] god of Ekron? |
Therefore, you shall not come down from the bed [you are lying in] & shall surely die. [Ahaziah asked,] What [kind] of man was he [who] came to meet you & said [this]? |
They answered, He was a hairy man [strapped] with a leather [belt] about his [waist]. [Ahaziah] said, It's Elijah, the Tishbite. King [Ahaziah] sent a captain with his 50 [men] to [Elijah] & [saw that] he sat on top of a hill. |
The [captain] spoke to [Elijah] & said, You man of God, the king said, Come down. Elijah answered the captain of 50, If I'm a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven & consume you & your 50. |
Fire came down from heaven & consumed him & his 50 [men]. [Ahaziah] also sent to [Elijah] another captain & his 50 [men] & said to [Elijah] O man of God, the king says [this,] Come down quickly. |
Elijah answered, If I'm a man of God, let fire come down from heaven & consume you & your 50. The fire of God came down from heaven & consumed him & his 50 [men]. |
[Ahaziah] sent a 3rd captain & his 50 [men]. The 3rd captain of 50 went up & fell on his knees [in front of] Elijah & [begged] him & said, O man of God, I pray that you let my life & the life of [these] 50 [men,] your servants, be precious in your sight. |
The Angel of the Lord said to [Elijah] The Lord says [this, Since] you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal Zebub, the [false] god of Ekron, Is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? |
Therefore, you shall not come down off that bed [where you lie,] but shall surely die. So, [Ahaziah] died according to the word of the Lord [that] Elijah had spoken. |
Jehoram [a.k.a. Joram,] [of Israel ruled] in his [place, during] the 2nd year Jehoram, [Jehohaphat's] son, king of Judah [ruled,] because he had no son. [Aren't] the rest of [Ahaziah's actions] written in the Book of the Chronicle of the Kings of Israel? |
