When 3 Mighty Men Risked Their Lives to Bring Water to David |
1 Chronicles 11:1-47 1 Chronicles in [Smaller Chunks] |
All Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying, [Look,] we are your [own] flesh & [blood]. In past [times,] when Saul was king, you led [us] out [to war & brought] Israel [back in.] |
The Lord, your God, said to you, You shall feed My people, Israel & you shall be ruler over My people Israel. Therefore, all the elders of Israel came to Hebron to the king. |
David made a covenant [promise] with them in Hebron before the Lord [God] & they anointed David king over Israel, according to the Word of the Lord, [through] Samuel, [the prophet.] |
David & all Israel went to Jerusalem. Which [had previously been named:] Jebus; where the Jebusites [originally resided] in the land. The [residents] of Jebus said to David, You shall not come here. |
[But] David [captured] the [palace] of Zion, which is [now called] the city of David. David [had] said, [Whoever attacks] the Jebusites 1st, shall be chief & captain. Joab, [Jeruiah's] son, went 1st & [became the] chief. |
David dwelt in the [palace, that's why] they called it the city of David. He built [up all around] the city, even from Milo & [all around it]. And Joab repaired the rest of the city. David [grew] greater & greater: for the Lord of Hosts was with [David.] |
These also are the chief [leaders] of [David's] mighty men, who strengthened themselves with [David] in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make [David] king, according to the Word of the Lord, concerning Israel. |
[These are David's] mighty men: Jashobeam, a Hachmonite, chief [leader] of the captains. He lifted his spear against 300, [who were killed] by him at 1 time. After him, was Eleazar, [Dodo's] son, the Ahohite, who was 1 of the 3 mighty [men]. |
He was with David at Pas Dammim & the Philistines were gathered together to battle where a barely [plot was] & the [Israelites] fled before the Philistines. They [stationed] themselves in the midst of that [plot] & delivered it & [killed] the Philistines & the Lord saved them [with] a [large] deliverance. |
3 of the 30 captains went down to David, to the rock [near] the Cave of Adullam. The Philistines [camped] in the Valley of Rephaim [giants.] David was then in the [safe place of refuge] & the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem then. |
David longed [for water] & said, Oh, [if someone] would give me a drink of water [from] the Well of Bethlehem at the gate! The 3 [captains broke] through [the Philistine army] & drew water out of the Well of Bethlehem by the gate & brought it to David. |
But David [wouldn't] drink it & poured it out to the Lord & said, My God forbid that I shall do this thing. Shall I drink the blood of these men [who] have put their lives in jeopardy? For they [risked] their lives [to bring] it. Therefore, [David wouldn't] drink it. |
The 3 mightiest men did these things. Abishai, [Joab's] brother, was chief of the 3: for lifting up his spear against 300 & he [killed] them. His name [was famous] among the 3 & he was more honorable than the 2: for he was their captain. |
[But] he [didn't attain the fame of] the 1st 3. Benaiah, [Jehoiada's] son; [who was] the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many valiant acts. He [killed] 2 lion-like men of Moab. |
He also went down & killed a lion in a pit on a snowy day. He [also killed] a [very tall] Egyptian, 5 cubits [tall.] In the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam. He went down to the [giant] with [only] a staff [like a long walking stick] & plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand & killed him with his own spear. |
Benaiah, [Jehoiada's] did these things & had the [famous] name among the 3 mighty [men]. Behold, he was [honored] among the 30, [but he didn't attain the fame of the] 1st 3. David [put him in charge] over his [guards]. |
Also, the valiant men of the armies were: Asahel, [Joab's] brother; Elhanan, [Dodo's] son, of Bethlehem; Shammoth, the Haroite; Helez, the Pelonite; Ira, [Ikkesh'] son, the Tekoite; Abiezer, the Anathothite; Sibbecai [a.k.a. Sibbekai,] the Hushathite; Ilai, the Ahohite; Mahari, the Netophathite; |

Azmaveth, the Baharumite; Eliahba, the Shaalbonite. The sons of Hashem, the Gizonite; Jonathan, the son of Shage [a.k.a. Shagee,] the Hararite; Ahiam, the son of Sacar [a.k.a. Sakar & Sachar,] the Hararite; Eliphal, [Ur's] son, |

Naharai, the Berothite [a.k.a. Beerothite] & [Joab's] armor bearer, [who was] the son of Zeruiah & Ira, the Ithrite; Gareb, the Ithrite; Urriah [a.k.a. Uriah,] the Hittite; Zabad, [Ahlai's] son; |
Adina, [Shiza's] son, the Reubenite & captain of the Reubenites & 30 [men] with him. Hanan [the] son of Maachah [a.k.a. Maakah & Maacah & Makkah;] Joshaphat [a.k.a. Jehoshaphat,] the Mithnite; |
Uzzia, the Ashterathite; Shama & Jehiel [a.k.a. Jeiel,] the sons of Hotham, the Aroerite; Jediael, [Shimri's] son; & his brother, Joha, the Tizite, Eliel, the Mahavite & Jeribai & Joshaviah, the sons of Ithmah, the Moabite, Eliel, Obed & Jasiel [a.k.a. Jaasiel,] the Mesobaite. |
