When 3 Mighty Men Risked Their Lives to Bring Water to David |
1 Chronicles 11:1-47 1 Chronicles in [Smaller Chunks] |
All Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron then, saying, [Look,] we are your [own] flesh & [blood.] In past [times,] even when Saul was king, you [led] [us] out [to war] & [brought] Israel [back] in. |
And the Lord, your God, said to you, You shall feed My people, Israel & you [shall] be ruler over My people, Israel. Therefore, all the elders of Israel came to Hebron, to the king. |
And David made a covenant, [a.k.a. contract,] with them in Hebron before the Lord [God] & they anointed David king over Israel, according to the Word of the Lord, [through] Samuel. [1 Samuel 3:20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beer Sheba, knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.] |
And David & all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were the [residents] of the land. The [residents] of Jebus said to David, You shall not come [here.] |
[But] David [captured] the castle of Zion, which is the city of David. And David said, [Whoever attacks] the Jebusites 1st, shall be chief & captain. So, Joab, [Jeruiah's] son, went 1st & [became the] chief. |
And David dwelt in the castle, [that's why] they called it the city of David. And [David] built the city [up all around,] even from [Milo] & [all around it.] And Joab repaired the rest of the city. So, David [grew] greater & greater: for the Lord of Hosts was with [David.] |
These also are the chief, [a.k.a. leaders,] of the mighty men, whom David had, who strengthened themselves with [David] in his kingdom & with all Israel, to make [David] king, according to the Word of the Lord, concerning Israel. |
[These are David's] mighty men: Jashobeam, a Hachmonite, chief, [a.k.a. leader,] of the captains. He lifted his spear against 300, [who were killed] by him at 1 time. After him, was Eleazar, [Dodo's] son, the Ahohite, who was 1 of the 3 [mighty men.] |
He was with David at Pas Dammim & the Philistines were gathered together to battle there, where a barley [plot] was & the [Israelites] fled before, [a.k.a. in front of,] the Philistines. They [stationed] themselves in the midst of that [plot] & delivered it & [killed] the Philistines & the Lord saved them [with] a [large] deliverance. |
Now, 3 of the 30 captains went down to David, to the rock [near] the Cave of Adullam. The [Philistines' army camped] in the Valley of Rephaim, [a.k.a. giants.] And David then was in the [safe place of refuge] & the Philistines' garrison was [also] at Bethlehem then. |
David longed [for water] & said, Oh, [if someone] would give me a drink of water [from] the Well of Bethlehem at the gate! The 3 [captains] [broke] through [the Philistine army] & drew water out of the Well of Bethlehem, by the gate & brought it to David. |
But David wouldn't drink it & poured it out to the Lord & said, My God [forbids] it [of] me, that I shall do this thing. Shall I drink the blood of these men [who] have put their lives in jeopardy? For [they risked] their lives [to bring] it. Therefore, [David] wouldn't drink it. |
These 3 mightiest men did these things. And Abishai, [Joab's] brother, was chief, [a.k.a. the leader,] of the 3: for lifting up his spear against 300 & he [killed] them. His name [was famous] among the 3. Of the 3, he was more [honorable] than the 2; for he was their captain. |
[But] he [didn't attain] [the fame of] the 1st 3. Benaiah, [Jehoiada's] son; [who was] the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many [valiant] acts. He [killed] 2 lion-like men of Moab. |
He also went down & [killed] a lion in a pit [on] a snowy day. And he [also] [killed] a [very tall] Egyptian, 5 cubits [tall.] And in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam. He went down to [the giant] with [only] a staff & plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand & [killed] him with his own spear. |
Benaiah, [Jehoiada's] son, did these things & had the [famous] [name among the 3 [mighty men.] [See,] he was [honored] among the 30, [but he didn't attain [the fame of the] 1st 3. David [put] him [in charge] over his [guards.] |

Sibbekai,] the Hushathite; Ilai, the Ahohite; Maharai, the Netophathite; |

Adina, [Shiza's] son, the Reubenite & captain of the Reubenites; & 30 [men] with him. Hanan the son of Maachah, [a.k.a. Maakah & Maacah & Makkah;] Joshaphat, [a.k.a. Jehoshaphat,] the Mithnite; |
Uzzia, the Ashterathite; Shama & Jehiel, [a.k.a. Jeiel,] the sons of Hothan, the Aroerite; Jediael, [Shimri's] son & his brother, Joha, the Tizite, Eliel, the Mahavite. And Jeribai & Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam & Ithmah, the Moabite; Eliel, Obed & Jasiel, [a.k.a. Jaasiel,] the Mesobaite. |
