About the Author of the Blogsite, Not the Author of the Bible::

About the Author of the Blogsite, Not the Author of the Bible: I was uncertain of how to accomplish this, mindful of Revelation 22:18-19, which says that nobody is to add to, or to take away from what was written in the Bible. After lots of prayerful contemplation, the Lord had it on my heart that I’m not to change the meaning of what is written in the Bible. He has also shown ways to add to people’s understating of that meaning, without altering the meaning, by putting that info within [brackets]. This is primarily accomplished with the KJV Bible and lots of prayers, but at times, BibleGateway.com, Biblehub.com, NIV Bible, Webster Dictionary, and other internet resources, as needed. About Understanding the Bible:

Understanding the Bible: After reading Isaiah 28:10 many times over the years and not totally understanding it, it recently became apparent to me that the Lord God has this passage as the means for understanding the Bible. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. Isaiah 28:10 KJV. Being prayerful about this passage, and looking up 'precept' in the Webster's Dictionary, it gave this passage a whole new meaning, once 'commandment' is substituted for 'precept'. Within brackets are additional words the Lord had on my heart to aid in understanding the meaning. For commandment must be [built up] upon commandment; commandment upon commandment; line upon line, line upon line; [developing understanding] here a little, and there a little.

The Table Format:

The Table Format: I was overwhelmed with how to explain the process for determining if someone had leprosy in Leviticus 13, which seemed very complicated. After praying, "Lord, if this is difficult for me to understand after reading it many times, how can this be explained to others?" The thought the Lord God had on my heart was for me to put it into a vertical chart to visually see the process. This made it much easier for me to follow the progression. After doing so, I prayed, "Lord, how can this be conveyed to readers, so that they can understand this process?" The thought the Lord God had on my heart was to put it within the lines of a table. Being a stiff-necked, stubborn person, as it's often called in the Bible, I prayed, asking the Lord God if He's sure that's really what He wanted me to do? I reluctantly put Leviticus 13 into a table format. When I read this difficult leprosy process within a table format, it suddenly became easier for me to understand. That's because it builds line upon line, as explained in the Understanding the Bible section. Shortly after that, the Lord God had it on my heart, to put all of The Books of the Bible in Smaller Chunks within a table format, to aid in understanding, line upon line.

Genesis 39:1-23 Joseph Was Wrongly Accused & Put into Prison

Joseph Was Wrongly Accused & Put into Prison

Genesis  39:1-23               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

Joseph was brought down to Egypt & [sold to] Potiphar, an Egyptian, who bought him from the [Ishmaelites] who brought him down [there.] He was an officer of Pharaoh & captain of the guard. The Lord was with Joseph & he was a prosperous man & was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

[Potiphar,] his master, saw that the Lord was with [Joseph] & made all that [Joseph] did prosper in his hand. Joseph found grace in his sight & served him & [Potiphar] made [Joseph] overseer of his house & all that he had put into his [Joseph’s] hand.

It [happened after, Potiphar] made [Joseph] overseer of his house & all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake & the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house & in the field.

[Potiphar] left all that he had in Joseph’s hand. [Joseph didn't take anything Potiphar] had, [except] for the bread that he ate. Joseph was [handsome] & well favored. After these things, it [happened] that [Potiphar’s] wife cast [longing] eyes on Joseph.

She said, Lie with me, but he refused. [Joseph] said to his master’s wife, [Look,] My master has put all that he has in my hand, but [he doesn’t know you are] with me in the house. There is none greater in this house than I [am], neither has he kept back anything from me, [except for] you, because you are his wife.

How then, could I do this great wickedness & sin against God? She [continued] to speak to Joseph, day by day, [but] he [didn’t pay attention to her requests] to lie with her or to be with her. It [happened] about [the] time, Joseph went into the house to do his [work] & none of the men [who work in] the house were [inside.]

She [grabbed] his garment & asked [Joseph,] Lie with me, but he fled [outside,\ & left his garment in her hand. It [happened,] when she saw he had fled & left his garment in her hand, she called [out] to the men of her house & [said,] See he brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to lie with me.

But I cried out with a loud voice. And it [happened] he heard [me cry out loudly] he fled & left his garment with me & [went] out. She [set aside Joseph's garment, until [Potiphar] came home.

[She said these] words, saying, The Hebrew servant, [that] you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me. It [happened,] when I [raised] my voice & cried [out,] he left his garment with me & fled out.

It [happened,] when Joseph's master heard the words of his wife, saying, [What I said,] your servant did to me. [Potiphar's] anger [grew].

Joseph’s master took him & put him into the prison, where the king’s prisoners were bound & [Joseph] was there in the prison. The Lord was with Joseph & [showed] him mercy & gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

He [put] into Joseph’s hand all the prisoners [who] were in the prison & whatever they did there & he was [in charge of what they did]. The keeper of the prison [didn’t check on what Joseph was in charge of], because the Lord was with him & [all that] he did & the Lord made it to prosper.

Genesis 38:1-30 Tamar Has a Child

Tamar Has a Child

Genesis  38:1-30               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

It came to pass at that time that [Jacob’s son,] Judah, went down from his [family] & went in to [visit] with a certain Adullamite named Hirah. [While] there, Judah saw a daughter of Shuah, a Canaanite & [Judah] took her [as his wife] & was [intimate] with her & she conceived & [bore] a son named Er.

She conceived again & [bore] a son named Onan. She conceived yet again & [bore] a son [named] Shelah & was at Chezib when she [bore] him. Judah took Tamar to be a wife for his firstborn [son,] Er. And Er, was wicked in the sight of the Lord & the Lord slew him.

And Judah said to Onan, Go into your brother’s wife & marry her & raise up [a child to honor] your brother.  Onan knew the [child] wouldn’t be his & when he [was intimate] with his brother’s wife, he spilled [his emission] on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.

The thing he did displeased the Lord & He slew [Onan] also. Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at your father’s house, until Shelah, my son, [is] grown, lest he die also, as his [brothers] did. Tamar went & dwelt in her father’s house.

In time, Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shuah, died & Judah was comforted & he & his friend, Hirah, the Adullamite, went to his sheep shearers in Timnath. And it was told [to] Tamar, saying [Look,] your father-in-law, goes up to Timnath to shear his sheep. [Tamar took] her widow’s garments off of her & covered & wrapped herself with a veil.

She sat in an open place by the [road] to Timnath, [since] she saw that Shelah, [Judah’s youngest son] was grown & she wasn’t given to him [to be his] wife. When Judah saw her, he thought [she was a] harlot, because she covered her face.

He turned in to her by the [road] & said, I pray [that] you let me [be intimate with] you; (because he didn’t know it was his daughter-in-law.) She [asked,] What will you give me, [so] that I know that you may come in to me? [Judah] said, I will send you a kid [goat] from the flock.

She said, [What] will you give me as a pledge [collateral, until] you send it? [Judah] said, What pledge shall I give you? She said, Thy signet [ring], your bracelets, & your staff that is in your hand & he gave it [to] her & [was intimate with] her & [although they didn't know it yet,] [Tamar] conceived by [Judah]. And [Tamar] arose & went away & [took] her veil [off] & put on the [clothing] of her widowhood.

And Judah sent the kid [goat] by the hand of his friend, the Adullamite, to receive his pledge [back] from the woman’s hand, but he couldn’t [find] her. Then [the Adullamite] asked the men of that place, Where is the harlot that was openly by the [road] side?

They said, There was no harlot in this place. He returned to Judah & said, I can’t find her & the men of the place said that there was no harlot in this place. And Judah said, Let her [keep the items I left for collateral,] lest we [are] shamed. I sent this kid [goat] & you haven't found her.

It came to pass [in] about 3 months [afterward,] Judah was told, Tamar, your daughter-in-law, hath played the harlot & she is with child by whoredom.

Judah said, Bring her forth & let her be burnt. When she was brought forth, she sent [for] her father-in-law, saying, I am with child by the man [who] these [things belong to]. I pray [that] you discern, whose these are: the signet, bracelet & staff.

Judah acknowledged them & said, She has been more righteous than [me], because I didn’t [give] her to Shelah, my son. [Judah] didn’t know [Tamar] again [intimately.] [At the time she was in hard labor], behold, twins were in her womb.

[During the hard labor], one [baby] put out his hand: & the midwife took & [put] a scarlet thread upon his hand, saying, This [baby] came out first. It came to pass, as he [the baby] drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out.

She said, How have you [come out first]? This breach is upon you: therefore his name was called Pharez. Afterward, his brother came out with the scarlet thread upon his hand & his name was called Zarah.

Genesis 37:1-36 Joseph’s Brothers Envy Him & Sell Him into Slavery

Joseph’s Brothers Envy Him & Sell Him into Slavery

Genesis  37:1-36               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

Jacob [a.k.a. Israel] dwelt in the land of Canaan, [where] his father was a stranger. These are the generations [genealogy] of [Jacob/Israel.] [His son] Joseph was 17 years old & was feeding the flock with his [brothers,] the sons of Bilhah & Zilpah, his father’s wives. Joseph brought a [bad] report about them [back] to their father.

[Jacob/Israel] loved Joseph more than all of his children, because he was the son of his old age & he made Joseph a coat of many colors. When his [brothers] saw that their father loved Joseph more, they hated him & could not speak peaceably to him.

Joseph [had a] dream & he told & his brothers & they hated him [even] more. [Joseph] told them, I pray [that] you hear this dream [that] I [had.] For [I saw] we were binding sheaves [bundles of grain stalks] in the field & my sheaf arose & stood upright & [saw] your sheaves stood [around & bowed down] to my sheaf. [Joseph’s brothers] said to him, Shall you indeed [rule] over us or have [power] over us? And they hated him [even] more [when they heard the dream] & his words.

[Joseph had] another dream & told it to his [brothers] & said, [In my other dream, I saw] the sun, the moon & the 11 stars [bowed down] to me. [When they heard it,] his father & his brothers, his father rebuked him & said, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother & I & your brothers indeed come & bow down to the earth to you?

His father [kept this matter in mind], but his brothers envied him. Joseph’s [brothers] went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem. [Jacob/Israel] said to Joseph, [Aren’t your brothers] feeding the flock in Shechem?  Come & I will send you to them. And [Joseph] said, Here I am.

Go, I pray [that] you see whether all is well with [them & their] flocks & bring back word to me again. So, he sent [Joseph] out of the [valley] in Hebron & came to Shechem. [When Joseph] was wandering in a field, a man found him & asked, What are you [looking for?]

[Joseph] told him, I'm [looking for my brothers.] I pray [that] you tell me where they [are feeding] their flocks? The man said, They are departed [from here] & I heard them say, Let's go to Dothan. Joseph went after his [brothers] & found them in Dothan.

When they saw [Joseph at a distance,] before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. And they said, [Look, the] dreamer [is coming.] Come & let's [kill Joseph] & cast him into some pit & say a [wild] beast has devoured. We shall see what will become of his dreams.

Reuben heard it & [tried to] deliver Joseph out of their hands & said, Let’s not kill him or shed [any] blood, but [throw] him into this pit in the wilderness & lay no hand on him, [so] that he might [rescue] Joseph from their hands, to deliver him to his father again.

It [happened, Reuben went out to feed the flock &] when Joseph [had] come to his [brothers], they stripped Joseph out of his coat of many colors that was on him & took him & cast him into an empty pit, with no water in it.

[While the brothers were eating] bread, they [saw] a company of Ishmaelites [coming] from Gilead with their camels bearing spices, balm & myrrh, going on their way down to Egypt. And Judah said to his [brothers,] What profit is it if we slay our brother &  conceal his blood?

Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites, so our hand isn’t upon [Joseph,] since he’s our brother & our flesh. [The brothers] were content [to do so.] Then the [Midianite merchants] passed by & [Joseph’s brothers pulled him] out of the pit & sold him to the Ishmaelites for 20 pieces of silver.

They brought Joseph into Egypt. When Reuben returned to the pit [from feeding the flocks] & [saw] Joseph wasn’t in the pit & [Reuben tore] his clothes & [went] to his [brothers] & said, The child is not [there, where] shall I go?

[The brothers] killed a kid [goat] & dipped Joseph’s coat in the blood & [took] the coat of many colors to their father, [Jacob/Israel,] & said, We have found this, do [you] know [if] it is Joseph’s coat or [not]? [Jacob recognized] it &  said, It is my son’s coat.

An evil beast has devoured him & Joseph is without [a] doubt [torn] in pieces. Jacob/Israel [tore] his clothes & put sackcloth on his [waist] & mourned for Joseph, his son [for] many days.

[Although, all Jacob/Israel’s] sons & daughters came to comfort him, he refused to be comforted & said, I will go down to my grave mourning for my son & his father wept for him. And the Midianites sold Joseph into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh & captain of the guard.

Genesis 35:1-29 Rachel Dies in Childbirth

Rachel Dies in Childbirth

Genesis  35:1-29               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

God [told] Jacob,  Arise & go up to Bethel & dwell there & make an altar there to God, [Who] appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau, your brother. Jacob [told] all his household, Put away all the strange gods that are among you [from their plundering the city] & be clean & change your garments.

[Jacob] said, Let’s arise & go up to Bethel & I will make an altar there to God, Who answered me in the day of my distress & has been with me in the [path] that I went. They [handed] Jacob all the strange gods & their earrings in their ears & Jacob hid them under the oak [tree] by [the city,] Shechem.

[As] they journeyed, the terror of God was on the cities all around them & they did not  pursue  after the sons of Jacob.  Jacob & all the people with him came to Luz, that is Bethel, in the land of Canaan & built an altar there. They called the place El Beth El, because God appeared to [Jacob] there, when he fled from the face of his brother.

Rebekah’s nurse, Deborah, died there. She was buried [below] Bethel, under an oak [tree] & called the place Allon Bachuth. God appeared to Jacob again & when [Jacob] came out of Padan Aram & blessed [Jacob.] And God said to him, Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your new name.

God said to him, I Am God Almighty. Be fruitful & multiply; a nation & a company of nations shall proceed from you & *kings shall come from your [body,] The land which I gave Abraham & Isaac, I give to you & your [descendants] after you, will I give this land.

[Luke 2:4-7 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judae, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: (because he was of the house & lineage of David:) To be taxed, with Mary his [betrothed] wife, being [large] with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son & wrapped Him in swaddling clothes & laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.]

God went up from where He had talked to him. [Jacob/Israel] set up a pillar of stone where God talked to him, at  Bethel. And [Jacob/Israel] poured a drink offering & oil [there.] And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.

They journeyed from Bethel & [weren’t far from] Ephrath, [but] Rachel [was about to deliver] & was in hard labor. And it [happened,] when she was in hard labor, the midwife told Rachel, [Don't] fear, you will have this son also.

[Before Rachel] died [in childbirth,] she called [her son’s] name Benoni, but [Jacob] called him Benjamin. Rachel died & was buried on the [road] to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. [Jacob/Israel] set up a pillar upon her grave, that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave [until] this day.

[Jacob/Israel]  journeyed & [pitched] his tent beyond the Tower of Edar.  It [happened,] when [Jacob/Israel dwelt in] that land,  [his son,] Reuben, [had] lay with Bilhah, his father’s [mistress] & Jacob heard it.

These are the 12 sons of [Jacob/Israel:] By Leah [were:] Reuben (1st born), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar & Zebulun. Rachel’s sons [were:] Joseph & Benjamin. By Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid [were:] Dan & Naphtali. And the sons [by] Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid were: Gad & Asher. These were the sons of Jacob born to him in Padan Aram.

Jacob came to his father, Isaac, [at] Mamre, in the city of [Kirjath Arba], which is Hebron, where Abraham & Isaac had [dwelt.] Isaac [lived] 180 years & [took his last breath] & died, being old & full of years & was gathered to his [forefathers.]   And his sons, Esau & Jacob buried him. [Genesis 15:15 And you shall go to your [forefathers] in peace & you shall be buried in a good old age.]

Genesis 34:1-31 Jacob’s Sons Taking Revenge for Their Sister Being Defiled

Jacob’s Sons Taking Revenge for Their Sister Being Defiled

Genesis  34:1-31               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

When Dinah, [the grown] daughter Leah [bore] to Jacob [God renamed Jacob, Israel,] went out to see the daughters of the land. When Shechem, son of Hamor, the Hivite, [a] prince of the country, saw [Dinah,] he took her & lay with her & defiled her. His soul [yearned for] Dinah, [Jacob's] daughter & loved [her] & spoke kindly to [her.]

Sheshem [spoke] to his father, Hamor, saying, Get me this [young woman] to [be my] wife. [Jacob/Israel] heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter. Now his sons were with the cattle in the field & Jacob held his peace until they [came.] And Hamor, [Shechem’s] father, went out to [speak] with [Jacob/Israel.]

And [Jacob's] sons came out of the field, when they heard it & the men were grieved & very [angry,] because [Shechem] had done such a [disgraceful thing] in Israel, by lying with Jacob's daughter, which [shouldn't] be done. Hamor [told] them, The soul of my son, Shechem, longs for your daughter. I pray [that] you give her [to] him to [be his] wife.

You can make marriages with us & give your daughters ro us & take our daughter [for] you. And you shall dwell with us. The land shall be before you. Dwell & trade [in the land] & get possessions [for] you [in it.] And Shechem [asked] her father & brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes & I will give [whatever] you shall say to me. Ask me [for] a dowry & a gift & I will give you according to [what] you shall say to me: but give me the [young woman to be my wife.]

And [Jacob's] sons answered Shechem & Hamor, his father, deceitfully, because [Shechem] had defiled Dinah, their sister. [Her brothers] said to them, We can’t do this thing, to give our sister to [someone who] is uncircumcised, for that is a [disgrace] to us. But we will consent to you: If you will [like] we [are] & every male of you [is] circumcised.

Then, we will give our daughters to you & we will take your daughters to us & we will become one people. But if you won't [listen] to us, to be circumcised; then we will take our daughter & we will be gone.

Their words pleased Hamor & Shechem, [Hamor's] son. And the young man [didn't decline] to do [this] thing, because [Shechem delighted in Dinah,] Jacob's daughter & he was more honorable than all the house of his father.

And Hamor & Shechem, his son, came to the gate of their city, saying, These men are [peaceful] with us; therefore let them dwell in the land & trade [in it,] for it is large enough for them.

Let us take their daughters for wives & let us give them our daughters. Only [on this condition] will the men consent to dwell with us [as] one people, if every male among us is circumcised, [like] they are circumcised. Let’s consent to them & they will dwell with us. [Won't] all their cattle & every [animal] of theirs [shall] be ours?

All [males who] went out of the gate of the city, [paid attention] to Hamor & shechem, his son & [got] circumcised. It [happened] on the 3rd day, When they were sore [after their circumcision,] 2 of [Jacob's] sons, Simeon & Levi, Dinah’s [brothers,] each took [their] sword & came boldly upon the city [killing] all the males.

They [killed] Hamor & Shechem, his son with the edge of the sword & took Dinah out of Shechem’s house & [left.] [Jacob’s] sons came upon [those] slain [plundered] the city; because their sister had been defiled. They took their sheep, oxen, [donkeys] & [what] was in the city & in the [fields] & all their wealth & took captive the wives & their little ones & [plundered] all that was in the house.

Jacob said to Simeon & Levi, You have troubled me & make me stink among the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites & Perizzites. [We are] few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me & kill me & my [household] & I  would be destroyed. [Jacob’s sons replied,] Should he deal with our sister [like a] harlot?

Genesis 33:1-20 Apprehensive Jacob Meets With Esau

Apprehensive Jacob Meets With Esau

Genesis  33:1-20               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

When Jacob saw Esau coming with the 400 men, he divided the children among Leah & Rachel & the 2 handmaids. He put the handmaids & their children 1st, Leah & her children next & at the end were Rachel & her children & Jacob/Israel, last.

Then Jacob/Israel crossed over before them, bowed to the ground 7 times as he came near his brother. Esau ran to meet Jacob & they hugged, kissed his neck & wept. When Esa saw the women & children he asked who they are & Jacob said, The children whom God has graciously given your servant.

All the women & children bowed before Esau, when they got near. Esau asked about the large drove [of animals] he met [on the way] & Jacob/Israel told Esau they were to find grace in Esau’s sight. Esau told him to keep them, because he has enough.

Jacob/Israel insisted that Esau take his present if he had found grace in his sight, because seeing Esau pleased him, as though he had seen the face of God. Jacob asked Esau to take the blessing he brought to him [Esau], because God has dealt graciously with him & he has enough.

Jacob urged Esau & he took it. Esau wanted Jacob & [companies to follow him], but Jacob asked that he & the children, flocks & herds with their young could travel at a pace they could endure & meet up with Esau in Seir. Esau offered to leave some of his [people] with him.

Jacob said he didn’t need it & Esau returned to Seir. Jacob journeyed to Succoth & built him a house, [a hut of branches] for his cattle. The name of the place is called Succoth. Then Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, in the land of Canaan & pitched his tent in front of the city.

He bought that parcel where he spread his tent from Hamor, Shechem’s father, for 100 pieces of money. Jacob erected an altar there & called El Elohe Israel [which meant: God, the God of Israel].

Genesis 32:1-32 Jacob Divides into Groups to Meet Esau

Apprehensive Jacob Meets With Esau

Genesis  33:1-20               The First Book of Moses Called Genesis

And Jacob [God renamed him Israel,] lifted up his eyes & [saw] Esau coming with the 400 men. [Jacob] divided the children [among] Leah & Rachel & the 2 handmaids. He put the handmaids & their children 1st, Leah & her children after & Rachel & Joseph, [her son,] were [at the end.]

[Then, Jacob/Israel crossed] over before them & bowed to the ground 7 times, until he came near his brother. Esau ran to [greet Jacob & they hugged] him & kissed his neck & they wept. [When Esau] saw the women & children, he [asked,] Who are those with you? And [Jacob] said, The children which God has graciously given [to] your servant.

Then, the hand maidens came near [with] their children & bowed themselves. And also, Leah came near with her children & bowed themselves. And [afterward,] Joseph & Rachel came near & bowed themselves. [Esau asked,] What do you mean by all these [herds of animals] I met? [Jacob/Israel told Esau,] These are to find grace in your sight, my lord. Esau [told him,] I have enough, my brother. Keep [what] you have for yourself.

[Jacob/Israel insisted,] I pray [that] if I have found grace in your sight, then [accept] my present [from] my hand. [Since] I have seen your face & you were pleased with me, [it's as though I had seen the face of God. [Jacob asked Esau,] Take my blessing that [I] brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me & I have enough.

[Jacob urged Esau] & he took it. [Esau] said, Let us take our journey & let us go & I will go [in front of] you. And Jacob [asked Esau,]My lord knows that the children, flocks & herds with their young with me are [weak] & the flock will die in 1 day if the men should [drive them too hard.] I pray [that] you, my lord, [cross] over before [me, your servant,] & I will lead on [slowly, so] the [livestock & children] that go [in front of me] are able to endure, until I come to [you,] my lord, [in] Seir. Esau [offered,] Now, let me leave with you some of [the people] with [me.]

[Jacob] said, What need [do I have] with it? Let me find grace in the sight of my lord. So, [Esau] returned that day on his way to Seir. Jacob journeyed to Succoth & built him a house & made booths [a hut of branches] for his cattle. Therefore, the name of the place is called Succoth. [Then,] Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, in the land of Canaan, when [Jacob] came from Padan Aram & he pitched his tent [in front of] the city.

[Jacob/Israel] bought that parcel of a field, at the hand of children [people] of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for 100 pieces of money, where [Jacob/Israel] spread his tent. [Jacob/Israel]  erected an altar there & called El Elohe Israel [which meant: God, the God of Israel].
