About the Author of the Blogsite, Not the Author of the Bible::

About the Author of the Blogsite, Not the Author of the Bible: I was uncertain of how to accomplish this, mindful of Revelation 22:18-19, which says that nobody is to add to, or to take away from what was written in the Bible. After lots of prayerful contemplation, the Lord had it on my heart that I’m not to change the meaning of what is written in the Bible. He has also shown ways to add to people’s understating of that meaning, without altering the meaning, by putting that info within [brackets]. This is primarily accomplished with the KJV Bible and lots of prayers, but at times, BibleGateway.com, Biblehub.com, NIV Bible, Webster Dictionary, and other internet resources, as needed. About Understanding the Bible:

Understanding the Bible: After reading Isaiah 28:10 many times over the years and not totally understanding it, it recently became apparent to me that the Lord God has this passage as the means for understanding the Bible. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. Isaiah 28:10 KJV. Being prayerful about this passage, and looking up 'precept' in the Webster's Dictionary, it gave this passage a whole new meaning, once 'commandment' is substituted for 'precept'. Within brackets are additional words the Lord had on my heart to aid in understanding the meaning. For commandment must be [built up] upon commandment; commandment upon commandment; line upon line, line upon line; [developing understanding] here a little, and there a little.

The Table Format:

The Table Format: I was overwhelmed with how to explain the process for determining if someone had leprosy in Leviticus 13, which seemed very complicated. After praying, "Lord, if this is difficult for me to understand after reading it many times, how can this be explained to others?" The thought the Lord God had on my heart was for me to put it into a vertical chart to visually see the process. This made it much easier for me to follow the progression. After doing so, I prayed, "Lord, how can this be conveyed to readers, so that they can understand this process?" The thought the Lord God had on my heart was to put it within the lines of a table. Being a stiff-necked, stubborn person, as it's often called in the Bible, I prayed, asking the Lord God if He's sure that's really what He wanted me to do? I reluctantly put Leviticus 13 into a table format. When I read this difficult leprosy process within a table format, it suddenly became easier for me to understand. That's because it builds line upon line, as explained in the Understanding the Bible section. Shortly after that, the Lord God had it on my heart, to put all of The Books of the Bible in Smaller Chunks within a table format, to aid in understanding, line upon line.

Ruth 3:1-18 Naomi’s Plan to Give Rest to Her Daughter-in-Law, Ruth

Naomi’s Plan to Give Rest to Her Daughter-in-Law, Ruth

Ruth 3:1-18                   The Book of Ruth [in Smaller Chunks]

Then Naomi, her mother-in-law, said to [Ruth,] My daughter, shouldn’t I seek rest for you, [so] things [go] well for you? Isn’t Boaz our [close relative,] with whose [maidens you’re with?]

[See,] he [is separating the chaff] from the barley tonight in the threshing floor. Therefore, wash & [perfume yourself & put on your best clothing] & [go] down to the floor, but don’t make yourself known until [after Boaz] has [finished] eating & drinking.

It shall [happen,] when [Boaz] lies down, you shall go in & uncover his feet & lay down & he will tell you what you shall do. [Ruth] said to [Naomi,] I will do all that you [said] to me & [Ruth] did according to [all] her mother-in-law [requested of] her.

[After] Boaz had eaten & drunk & his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of a heap of corn & [Ruth] came softly & uncovered the feet of [Boaz] & laid down.

It [happened] at midnight, [Boaz] was [startled] & turned & [saw] a woman lay at his feet. And he said, Who [are] you? She answered, I am Ruth, your handmaid. Therefore, spread your [robe] over your handmaid, since you [are] a [close relative].

[Boaz] said, Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter: for you have [shown] more kindness, [in the end than,] the beginning, [since] you didn’t follow young men, whether poor or rich.

Now, my daughter, don’t be [fearful]. I will do [for] you all you [request,] for all the city of my people know you are a virtuous woman. It’s true that I am a [close relative, but] there is a [closer relative than me.]

[Stay] this night & in the morning, if he will perform a [close relative’s] part [for] you, well, let him do [so.] But if he won’t do the part of a [close relative for] you, then I will do the part of a [close relative for] you, as the Lord lives.

Lie down until the morning. [Ruth] lay at [the feet of Boaz] until morning & rose up before one could know another. Boaz said, Don’t let it be known that a woman came to the [threshing] floor.

Bring the [shawl] you have on you & hold it & when she held it, [Boaz poured out] 6 measures of barley & laid it on her [shawl] & she went into the city. When [Ruth] came to her mother-in-law, [Naomi] said, [How] are you, my daughter?

Ruth said, [Boaz] gave me these 6 measures of barley & said to me, Don’t go [away] empty [handed] to your mother-in-law. Then [Naomi] said, Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will [be determined:] for [Boaz] will not rest until he has finished [this] thing [today.]

Ruth 2:1-23 Ruth Gleans in the Fields of Boaz

Ruth Gleans in the Fields of Boaz

Ruth 2:1-23                   The Book of Ruth [in Smaller Chunks]

A [relative of Naomi’s husband,] a mighty man of wealth [from] the family of Elimelech, was [named] Boaz. And Ruth, the Moabitess, said to Naomi, Let me go out to the field now & glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I may find grace.

[Naomi] said, Go, my daughter. [Ruth] went & gleaned in the field after the reapers & she [happened to glean] on a part of the field belonging to Boaz, the [relative] of Elimelech.

[Look,] Boaz came from Bethlehem & said to the reapers, The Lord be with you. They answered him, [May] the Lord bless you. Then, Boaz [asked] his servant, [who] was over the reapers, Whose damsel is this? The servant [answered,] It is the Moabitish [woman who] came back with Naomi [from] the country of Moab.

[Ruth had asked,] I pray [that] you let me glean & gather after the reapers among the sheaves? So she came & has continued from morning until now [though she rested] a little in the house.

Then, Boaz said to Ruth, My daughter, hear [me & don’t] go & glean in another field [or] leave from [here,] but [stay close] by my maidens [who glean.] [Watch,] the field [where] they [are reaping] & go after them.

I have [ordered] the young men that they shall not touch you. When you are [thirsty] go to the vessels & drink [what] the young men have drawn. [Ruth] fell on her face & bowed to the ground & said to [Boaz,] Why have I found grace in your [sight,] that you [pay attention] to me, [since] I am a stranger?

Boaz answered, It has been [shown to] me all you have done [for] your mother-in-law since the death of your husband & you left your [family] & land [of your birth] & came to a people [that] you [hadn't known before].

The Lord [repays] your work, a full reward [is] given to you [from] the Lord God of Israel, [you’ve] come to trust, [Who protects you under His wing.] [Ruth] said, Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, for you have comforted me & spoken [kindly] to your handmaid, though [I’m] not like one of your [handmaids.]

Boaz said to her, At mealtime, come [here] & eat the bread & dip [it] in the vinegar. [Ruth] sat beside the reapers & [Boaz handed Ruth] some [dried] corn & she [ate] & was [satisfied] & left.

When [Ruth rose] up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves & don’t [stop] her. Also, let some handfuls [of grain] fall [on] purpose & leave them, [so] she may glean them & [don’t scold] her.

[Ruth] gleaned in the field [until evening] & beat out [what] she had gleaned & it was about an ephah of barley. [Ruth] took it & went up into the city & [Naomi] saw what she had gleaned. [Ruth] brought [it] & gave it to [Naomi,] who [took what she needed].

[Naomi] said, Where [have] you gleaned today? Where did you [work?] Blessed [is] he [who acknowledged] you. [Ruth told Naomi,] The man’s name is Boaz. Naomi said to [Ruth,] Blessed is he of the Lord, who [has not forgotten] his kindness to the living & to the dead.

The man is a near [relative] to us. Ruth said, He also said to me, You shall [stay close] to my young men until they have ended all my harvest. Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, It’s good, my daughter, that you go with his maidens, [so] they [don’t] meet you in any other field.

So, [Ruth stayed close] by the maidens of Boaz to glean [until] the end of the barley harvest & wheat harvest & [lived] with her mother-in-law.

Ruth 1:1-22 Ruth Goes Out With 3 & Returns With 1

Ruth Goes Out With 3 & Returns With 1

Ruth 1:1-22                   The Book of Ruth [in Smaller Chunks]

Now it [happened,] in the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. A certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to [temporarily stay] in the country of Moab [with] his wife & his 2 sons.

[His] name was Elimelech & [his wife’s name was] Naomi & the [names] of his 2 sons [were:] Mahlon & Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah. They came into the country of Moab & continued [to stay] there.

Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died & she & her 2 sons [were] left. [Her 2 sons took Moabite] women [as] wives. The name of the 1 was Orpah & the other was Ruth. They [lived] there [for] about 10 years. [Both] Mahlon & Chilion died, also.

[Naomi was the only one] left of her 2 sons & her husband. [Then Naomi] with her 2 daughters-in-law [prepared to leave] from the country of Moab.

[Naomi] had heard [while] in the country of Moab; how the Lord visited His people [by] giving them bread. [For this reason,] she went [out] of the place where she was, [with] her 2 daughters-in-law to return to the land of Judah.

Naomi said to her 2 daughters-in-law, Go, return to each [of your] mother’s [houses.] [So,] the Lord deals kindly with you, [like] you have dealt with the dead & with me.

[May] the Lord grant that you may each find rest in the house of [your] [future] husband. Then, she kissed them & they lifted up their [voices] & wept. They said to her, Surely, we will return with you to your people.

Naomi said, [Return] again, my daughters. Why [would] you go with me? [Am I able to give birth] to any more sons, [so] that they may be your husbands? Turn & go your way, my daughters, for I am too old to have a husband.

[Even if I said,] I [had a] hope [of having] a husband tonight & [were to] bear sons, would you [wait] until they were grown & [keep yourself] from having husbands? [No,] my daughters.

For it grieves me much, for your sakes that the hand of the Lord [has] gone out against me.They lifted up their [voices] & wept again. And Oprah kissed her mother-in-law; but Ruth [clung] to her.

[Naomi] said, [Look,] your sister-in-law [has] gone back to her [own] people & her gods. Return [with] your sister-in-law. Ruth said, [Don’t beg] me to leave you, or return from following you. For [wherever] you go, I will go & where you lodge, I will lodge.

Your people shall be my people & your God [shall be] my God. Where you die, I will die & there I will be buried. Let the Lord do so & more if [anything except] death [parts] you & me.

When [Naomi] saw [that Ruth] was [determined] to go with her, then she [stopped] speaking to her [about it]. So the 2 went until they came to Bethlehem. All the city was [excited about their arrival] & they said, Is this Naomi?

She said to them, Don’t call me Naomi, call me Mara, [Bitter, because] the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full & the Lord has brought me home again empty.

Why [still] call me Naomi, [Pleasant,] seeing [that] the Lord has testified against me & the Almighty has afflicted me? So, Naomi returned [with] her daughter-in-law, Ruth, the Moabite [from] the country of Moab & they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

Judges 21:1-25 The Plan for the Benjamites to Get Wives

The Plan for the Benjamites to Get Wives

Judges 21:1-25    The Book of Judges [in Smaller Chunks]

Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh saying, [None of us] will give [our] daughter to [the tribe] of Benjamin [for a] wife. [Judges 20:4-6 And the Levite, the husband of the woman [who] was [killed,] answered & said, I & my [mistress] came [to lodge] in Gibeah, that belongs to Benjamin.

And the men of Gibeah rose against me & [surrounded around] the house upon me [at] night & thought to kill me. And they have forced [& raped] my [mistress,] that she is dead.]

And I took my [mistress] & cut her in [12] pieces & sent her throughout all the country of [Israel's] inheritance. For they have committed [an immoral & outrageous act] in Israel.]

The people [of Israel] came to the house of God & [stayed] there [until evening] before God & [they] lifted up their voices & wept [sorely] & said, O Lord God of Israel, why [has] this [happened] in Israel, that there is 1 tribe [missing] in Israel, [like] it is today?

It [happened, the next day,] the people rose early & built an altar there & offered [both] burnt offerings & Peace Offerings. The children [people] of Israel said, [Which tribe] among all of Israel [hasn’t come] up with the congregation to the Lord?

For they had made a great oath concerning [those who didn’t come] up to the Lord in Mizpeh, saying, Surely, he [would] be put to death. The [people] of Israel were [grieved about] their brother, Benjamin & said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

How shall we [find] wives for [those who] remain, seeing that we have sworn by the Lord that we will not give our daughters to them [as] wives? They said, [Which] one of the tribes didn’t come up to Mizpeh to the Lord?

And [they saw, no one] came to the camp from Jabesh Gilead to the assembly. The people [of Israel] were [counted] & there were none of the inhabitants from Jabesh Gilead there.

The congregation sent [there] 12,000 of the [most courageous] men & commanded them, saying, Go & [strike down] the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women & children.

And this is the thing that you shall do, You shall [totally] destroy every male & female that has been [intimate with a] man. They found 400 young [maidens] among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gidead & brought them to the camp [of] Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

The whole congregation sent some to speak peaceably to the children [people] of Benjamin [who] were in Rock Rimmon & to call them. Benjamin came again at that time & they gave them wives, which they had saved alive [from] the women of Jabesh Gilead & [still they didn’t have enough.]

The people [were grieved] for Benjamin, because the Lord had made a [gap] in the tribes of Israel. Then, the elders of the congregation said, How shall [we get] wives for [those who] remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

They said, There must be an inheritance for [those who] escaped of Benjamin., [so] that a tribe [isn’t] destroyed out of Israel. [However] we may not give them wives [from] our daughters: For the [people] of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed [are those who give their daughters for] a wife to Benjamin.

Then, they said, [Look,] there is a feast [for] the Lord in Shiloh [each year] in a place that is on the north of BethEl & on the east side of the highway that goes up from BethEl to Shechem & on the south of Lebonah.

Therefore, they commanded the [people] of Benjamin, saying, Go & [hide] & lie in wait in the vineyards. [Watch for] the daughters of Shiloh to come out to dance, then you come out of the vineyard & [each of you] catch [one of them to be] his wife [from] the daughter of Shiloh & go to the land of Benjamin.

And it shall be, when their fathers or [family] come to us to complain, we will say to them, [Be kind] to them for our [sake,] because in the war, we [didn’t save enough women] for each man to have a wife, at that time, [so] that, you [wouldn't] be guilty.

The [people] of Benjamin did so & took wives [for themselves,] according to the number of [those] they caught [who] danced [in Shiloh] & [then] they returned to their inheritance [in the land of Benjamin] & [rebuilt] the cities & [lived] in them.

And the [people] of Israel departed [from there,] at that time. Every man went to his tribe & to his family & to his inheritance. There was no king in Israel, those days & every man did [what] was right in his own eyes.

Judges 20:1-48 The Israelites React to the Actions of the Tribe of Benjamin

The Israelites React to the Actions of the Tribe of Benjamin

Judges 20:1-48    The Book of Judges [in Smaller Chunks]

[Judges 19:27-29 And her [master,] rose up in the morning & opened the doors of the house & went out to go [on] his way & [saw] the woman, [who was] his [mistress had] fallen down [dead] at  the door of the house & her hands were on threshold. And he said to her, [Get] up & let’s be going.

But there [was no answer.] Then, the man took & [put] her upon [a donkey] & the man rose up & [went] to his place.  When. He [came] into his house, he took a knife & divided his [mistress who was raped to death] with her bones into 12 pieces & sent her into all the coasts of Israel.]

Then, all the children [people] of Israel went out & the congregation was gathered together to the Lord in Mizpeh [unified like] one man, from Dan even to Beer Sheba, with the land of Gilead.

The [leaders] of all the people & even all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of [God’s] people, 400,000[ foot soldiers, armed with swords.] (Now the children [people] of Benjamin heard [that] the [people] of Israel [had] gone up to Mizpeh.)

Then, the [people] of Israel said, Tell us, [How did this wicked deed happen?] The Levite husband of the [deceased] woman answered & said, I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, [with my mistress to spend the night.]

The men of Gibeah rose against me & [surrounded] the house [at] night & [planned] to [kill] me & they forced & [raped my mistress] & she is dead. I took the body of my [mistress] & cut [it] into [12] pieces & sent her throughout the [land] of [Israel’s] inheritance.

For they have committed an [immoral & outrageous act] in Israel. [Look,] you are all the children [people] of Israel. Give your advice & counsel [about this.] All the people arose [unified like] one man, saying, [None] of us will go to his tent or turn into his house [until] we go up against Gibeah by lot.

We will take 10 men of [every] 100 & 100 men of [every] 1,000 & 1,000 men [out] of [every] 10,000, throughout the tribes of Israel, to [make provisions & food,] for the people, [so] they may do to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the [wickedness] that they have [done] in Israel.

So, all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, [united] together [like] one man. The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin saying, What is this wickedness that [you have committed] among you?

Now [hand over to] us the [wicked men] in Gibeah, [so] we may put them to death & put away the evil from Israel. But the [people] of Benjamin wouldn’t [listen to] the voice of their brethren, the children [people] of Israel.

The [people] of Benjamin gathered themselves together [from the cities of] Gibeah, to go out to battle against the [people] of Israel. The [people] of Benjamin [counted from] the cities [were] 26,000 men [who] drew the sword, [in addition to] 700 chosen men, [who] were inhabitants of Gibeah.

Among all [these] people, there were 700 chosen, left handed men. Everyone could sling stones at a [hair’s] breadth & not miss. [Those] men of Israel [fighting] against the [people] of Benjamin, were [counted:] 400,000 men of war [of Israel, who] drew the sword.

The [people] of Israel arose & went up to the house of God & asked counsel of [the Lord] God & said, Which of us shall go up 1st to battle against the [people] of Benjamin?

The Lord said, Judah shall go up 1st. The [people] of Israel rose up in the morning & [set up camp] against Gibeah. The men of Israel [put] themselves in [battle order] to fight against [Benjamin] in Gibeah.

The [men] of Benjamin came [out of] Gibeah & destroyed 22,000 Israelite men [on the battlefield] that day. The men of Israel encouraged themselves & put themselves [in order] again [like] they did the 1st day.

And the [people] of Israel encouraged themselves & [put themselves in battle order] again, in the [same] place where they put themselves the 1st day. (And the [people] of Israel went up & wept before the Lord until [evening] & asked counsel of the Lord saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the [people] of Benjamin, my brother? The Lord said, Go up against [them.])

The [people] of Israel came near the [people] of Benjamin the 2nd day & Benjamin went [out] of Gibeah the 2nd day & destroyed 18,000 men, [on the battlefield,] all [who] drew the sword [of Israel.]

Then, all the [people] of Israel & all the people went to the house of God [in Bethel] & wept & sat there before the Lord & fasted that day until [evening] & offered [both] burnt offerings & Peace Offerings before the Lord.

[They inquired] of the Lord (for the Ark of the Covenant of God was there in those days & Phinehas, [Eleazar’s] son, [who] was the son of Aaron, stood [as high priest]. before it in those days,) saying, Shall I [still] go out to battle against the [people] of Benjamin, my brother, or should I [stop?]

The Lord said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand. Israel [put men to lie] in wait [for ambush, around] Gibeah. The [people] of Israel went up against the [people] of Benjamin on the 3rd day & put themselves in [battle order] against Gibeah, [like the] other times.

The [people] of Benjamin [came] out against the people [of Israel] & were drawn away from the city & began to [attack] & kill the people [of Israel, like the previous] times.

[They] killed about 30 men of the people [of Israel like] the other times in the highways, [that lead] up to the house of God & to Gibeah & in the field. The [people] of Benjamin said, They are [struck] down before us [just like the 1st time.]

But the [people] of Israel said, Let us flee & draw them [out] from the city & into the highways. All the men of Israel rose up out of their place & put themselves [in battle order] at Baal Tamar & [those who] lie in wait of Israel, came out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.

And 10,000 chosen men of all Israel came out against Gibeah, but [those of Gibeah] [didn’t know] that [disaster] was near them. The Lord [struck down] Benjamin, before Israel & the [people] of Israel destroyed 25,100 [Benjamite] men, [who] drew the sword.

So, the [people] of Benjamin saw that they were [defeated:] for the men of Israel [had given way,] to the Benjamites, because they trusted [those who lie in wait to ambush, who] wait beside Gibeah.

And [those who lie] in wait, [hurried] & rushed upon Gibeah. & [struck down] all the city with the edge of the sword. Now, [they had] appointed [a signal between

the men of Israel & [those who] lie in wait, that they [would] make a [large] flame with smoke [rising] out of the city.

When the men of Israel [retreated from] battle, [the Benjamites] began to [strike] & kill about 30 men of Israel. [They] said, Surely, they are [struck down] before us [like] in the 1st battle.

But when the flame & [column] of smoke began to [rise] up out of the city, the Benjamites looked behind them & [saw] the flame of the city [go up] to heaven.

When the men of Israel turned [back] again [to ambush them,] the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that [disaster had] come upon them. Therefore, they turned their backs & [fled] before the men of Israel [into] the wilderness.

But the battle overtook them & [those who] came out of the cities [were] destroyed in the midst of them. They [surrounded] Benjamin & [closed them in] & chased & [tampled] them down with ease, [east of] Gibeah.

18,000 men of valor of Benjamin [died.] They turned & fled toward the wilderness to the Rock of Rimmon & they [cut down] 5,000 men in the highways & [chased] hard after them to Gidom & [killed] 2,000 of [their] men.

So all [who] fell that day of Benjamin were 25,000 men of valor, [who] drew the sword. But 600 men turned & fled [into] the wilderness to the Rock of Rimmon & [stayed] 4 months.

The men of Israel [turned back against] the [people] of Benjamin & [struck] them [down, by] the edge of the sword & the men, [animals] & all [they found] of every city. They [also] set the cities on fire that they came to.

Judges 19:1-30 The Man Went to Get His Mistress at His Father-in-Law’s Home

The Man Went to Get His Mistress at His Father-in-Law’s Home

Judges 19:1-30    The Book of Judges [in Smaller Chunks]

It [happened] in those days, when there was no king in Israel & there was a certain Levite [temporarily staying] on the side of Mount Ephraim, who took [a mistress for himself] out of Bethlehem Judah.

His [mistress played the unfaithful harlot] against him & went away from him to her father’s house in Bethlehem Judah & was there 4 whole months. Her husband went after her[with his servant & a couple of [donkeys,] to speak [kindly] to her & bring her [back] again.

She brought him into her father’s house & when her father saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. His father-in-law, the damsel’s father, [delayed] him [from going] & he [stayed] with him 3 days & they ate & [drank] & lodged there.

It [happened,] on the 4th day, when they arose early in the morning & [got up to leave,] the damsel’s father said to his son-in-law, Comfort your heart with a [bit of] bread & afterward go [on] your way.

They both sat down together & ate & [drank,] for [her] father had said to the man, I pray [that] you can be [content] & let your heart be merry & [stay] here all night. When the man rose up to [leave,] his father-in-law urged him & he lodged there again.

On the 5th day, he arose early to [leave] & [her] father said, I pray [that] you comfort your heart & they [waited] until afternoon & they both [ate.] When the man rose up to [leave] with his [mistress] & his servant, his father-in-law said to him, [Look, it’s almost] evening.

I pray that you [stay] all night, [since it's almost sunset,] lodge here, [so] that your heart may be merry & tomorrow you can get [up] early [& be] on your way, [so] you [may] go home.

The man [wouldn’t wait] that night & rose up & [left] with his 2 saddled [donkeys,] his [mistress] [& servant] [were] also with him & [headed toward] Jebus. When  they were [near] Jebus, the day was [almost over] & the servant said to his master, I pray [that] you come & let us turn in to this city of Jebusites & lodge in it.

His master said, We won’t turn aside [to go] into the city of a stranger, [who isn’t] of the children [people] of Israel. We will [cross] over to Gibeah. He said to his servant, Come, let us draw [close] to one of these places in Gibeah, or in Ramah, to lodge all night.

They [continued] on & went their way & the sun [had gone] down, when they were by Gibeah, which [belongs] to Benjamin. They turned aside [there] to go in & lodge in Gibeah.

When he went in, he sat down in a street of the city, [since] there was no man [who] took them into their house to [lodge.] [He saw,] there came an old man from his work [in] the field [who] also was [from] Mount Ephraim & he [temporarily stayed] in Gibeah, but the men of the place were Benjamites.

When he lifted up his eyes & saw a [traveler] in the street of the city, the old man said, [Where] are you going? [Where do] you [come from]? [The man] said, We are [leaving] from Bethlehem Judah, toward the side of Mount Ephraim.

I am from [there] & I went to Bethlehem Judah, but now I am going to the house of the Lord, [since] there is no man, [who] receives me [into his] house. Yet, [we have] both [enough] straw & [feed] for our [donkeys.]

And there is [enough] bread & wine for me, [the] handmaid & the young man, [who] is with your servants. There is [nothing we lack.] [So,] the old man said, Peace be with you. [However,] let all your [needs] lie upon me.

Only [don’t] lodge in the street. So, he brought him into his house & gave [feed] to the [donkeys] & they washed their feet & [ate & drank] & were making their hearts merry.

Certain [wicked troublemakers] of the city [surrounded] the house & beat [on] the door & spoke to the old man, [who] was the master of the house, saying, Bring [out] the man [who] came into your house, [so] that we may know him [intimately.]

The master of the house, went out to them & said, No, my brethren, I pray [that] you don’t [do] so wickedly; seeing this man [has] come into my house. [Don’t do this outrageous thing.]

[Look,] here is my daughter, a maiden & his [mistress.] I will bring them out now & you humble them & do what seems good to you, but don’t do this [disgraceful] thing to this man.

But the men [wouldn’t listen] to him; so the man took his [mistress] & brought her [out] to them & they knew her [intimately] & abused her all night until the morning & when the day began to [dawn,] they let her go.

Then, the woman came at [daybreak] & fell down at the door of the man’s house where her [husband] was, [until] it was light. Her husband rose up in the morning & opened the doors of the house, to go his way & [saw his mistress had] fallen down at the door of the house & her hands were upon the threshold.

He said to her, [Get] up. Let’s be going. But [there was no answer.] Then, the man [put] her upon [the donkey] & rose up & [went] to his place.

When he [came] into his house, he took a knife & took hold of his [deceased mistress] & divided her together with her bones into 12 pieces & sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

So it was, that all [who] saw it said, There hasn’t been such a [wicked thing like this] done or seen from the day that the children [people] of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt [until] this day. Consider [this] & [get] advice & speak your minds [about this.]
