The Water of Purification |
Numbers 19:1-22 The Fourth Book of Moses Called Numbers |
The Lord [spoke] to Moses & Aaron, This is an [rule] of the Law, which the Lord has commanded, saying, Speak to the children [people] of Israel, [so] they bring a red heifer, without spot & blemish [that] has never [had a] yoke [of a plow on it.] |
You shall give her to Eleazar, the priest, [so] he may bring her [outside] the camp & [someone] shall [kill] her before [him.] Eleazar shall take [some] of her blood & sprinkle directly [in front of] the tabernacle of the congregation 7 times. |
[Someone] shall burn the heifer, her skin, her flesh, her blood & her [feces] in [Eleazar’s] sight. [Eleazar,] the priest, shall take cedar wood, hyssop & scarlet & cast it into the midst of the burning heifer. |
Then the priest shall wash his clothes & bathe his [body] in water. Afterward, he shall come into the camp & the priest shall be unclean until [evening.] |
[The person who burns the heifer] shall wash his clothes in water & bathe his [body] in water & shall be unclean until [evening.] |
A man [who] is clean, shall gather up the ashes of the heifer & store] them [outside] the camp in a clean place. It shall be kept for the congregation of the [people] of Israel for a water of separation. It’s for purification [from] sin. |
[The person who gathers] the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes & be unclean until [evening.] It shall [be the same] for the [people] of Israel & the stranger [who temporarily stays with them,] as a [mandate] forever. |
[The person who touches] the dead body of any man shall be unclean 7 days. He shall purify himself with iton the 3rd day. On the 7th day, he shall be clean. If he doesn’t purify himself on the 3rd day, he won’t be clean on the 7th day. |
[Whoever] touches the dead body of any man & [doesn’t] purify himself , [defiles] the tabernacle of the Lord. That [person] shall be cut off from Israel, because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him. He shall be unclean & his uncleanness is [still] upon him. |
This is the law, when a man [dies] in a tent: all [who] are in the tent or come into the tent, shall be unclean [for] 7 days. Every open [container] which has no cover upon it, is unclean. |
[Whoever] touches [someone who] was [killed] with a sword in the open fields, a dead body, a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean 7 days. For an unclean person, they shall take [some] of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin & running water shall be put [into] a vessel. |
A clean person shall take hyssop & dip it in the [purification] water, & sprinkle it on the tent, upon all the vessels, upon the [people who] were there, on the [person who] touched a bone, [someone killed,] someone dead, or a grave. |
The clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean [person] on the 3rd day & on the 7th day, he shall purify himself & wash his clothes & bathe himself in water & shall be clean [that evening.] |
But the man [who] is unclean & doesn’t purify himself, shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he has [defiled] the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of separation hasn’t been sprinkled on him & he is unclean. |
It shall be a perpetual [mandate] to them, that the [person who] sprinkles the water of separation shall wash his clothes. The [person who] touches the water of separation, shall be unclean until [evening.] |
[Whatever] the unclean person touches, shall be unclean. The [person who] touches [that unclean item,] shall be unclean until [evening.] |
