The Holy Spirit Comes Like Tongues of Fire to the Apostles on Pentecost

Acts 2:1-47                    The Acts of the Apostles [in Smaller Chunks]

And when the day of Pentecost [had] fully come, they were all in one place, with one accord, [a.k.a. united as one, in agreement.] And suddenly a sound from heaven came there, [like] of a mighty, rushing wind, & it filled all the house where they were sitting.

And cloven tongues appeared to them there, like as [from] fire, & it sat [over] each of them. *And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] & began to speak with other tongues, [a.k.a. languages,] as the Spirit gave them utterance. [Isaiah 42:1 *[See,] My servant, Whom I uphold. [My] elect, [a.k.a. Chosen,] in Whom My soul [delights.] I have put My Spirit upon Him, & He shall bring forth judgment, [a.k.a. justice,] to the Gentiles.]

And there were Jews dwelling [in] Jerusalem, devout men, [from] every nation under heaven. Now, when this was [spread] abroad, the multitude came together, & were [confused,] because every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed & [marveled,] saying to one another, [Look,] aren't all these Galilaeans, [who] speak?

And how [do] we, everyman, hear in our own [language, in which] we were born? We: Parthians; Medes; Elamites; & [those living] in: Mesopotamia; Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea;] Cappadocia; Pontus; Asia; Phrygia; Pamphylia; in Egypt; & in parts of Libya; [around] Cyrene; & [visitors from] Rome; Jews; proselytes, [a.k.a. converts;] Cretes; & Arabians, hear them speak the wonderful works of God, [a.k.a. Miracles,] in our [languages.]

And they were all amazed, & were [doubting,] saying to one another, What [does] this [mean?] Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the 11, lifted up his voice, & said to them, You men of Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] & all you, [who live in] Jerusalem, [let] this [be] known to you, & [pay attention] to my words, For these aren't [drunk,] as you [think, since] it is [only] the 3rd hour of the day.

*But this is [what] was spoken by the prophet Joel: And God [says,] It shall [happen] in the last days, I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh. And your sons & daughters shall prophesy, & your young men shall see visions, & your old men shall dream dreams. *And [during] those days, I will pour out My Spirit on My handmaidens, & they shall prophesy. *And I will [display] wonders, [a.k.a. Miracles,] in heaven above, & signs in the earth, [below: blood, fire, & smoke [vapors,] *The sun shall be turned into darkness, & the moon into blood, before that great & notable day of the Lord [comes.] * And it shall [happen,] that [whoever] shall call on the Name of the Lord, shall be saved. [Joel 2:28-32 *And it shall [happen] afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh. And your sons & your daughters shall prophesy. Your old men shall dream dreams, & your young men shall see visions. *And I will also pour out My Spirit upon the servants, & upon the handmaids, [during] those days. *And I will [display] wonders, [a.k.a. Miracles,] in the heavens & [on] the earth, blood, fire, & pillars of smoke. *The sun shall be turned into darkness, & the moon into blood, [prior to] the great & terrible day of the Lord [happens.] *And it shall [happen,] that [whoever] shall call on the Name of the Lord, & the [rest] whom the Lord shall call, shall be delivered. For deliverance shall be in Mount Zion, & in Jerusalem, [like] the Lord has said.]

*You men of Israel, hear these Words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man approved [by] God [through] Miracles, Wonders, & Signs, among you, which God did by Him, in the midst of you, as you, yourselves, also know. [Matthew 15:30-31 *And [large] multitudes came to [Jesus,] having with them, those [who] were: lame; blind; [mute; crippled;] & many others, & cast them down at Jesus' feet, & [Jesus] healed them. [In] that, the multitude wondered, when they saw the [mute,] speak; the [crippled,] whole; the lame, walk; & the blind, see. And they glorified the God of Israel.]

[Jesus Christ,] being delivered [to] the council [determined] by [God's foresight.] [Mark 10:32-33 And they were amazed [on] the [road] going up to Jerusalem, & Jesus went [in front of] them. As they followed, they were afraid. *And [Jesus] again took the 12, & began to tell them what things should happen to Him, saying, [Look,] we go up to Jerusalem, & *the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests & scribes, & *they shall condemn Him to death, & *shall deliver Him to the Gentiles. *And they shall mock Him, scourge, [a.k.a. whip,] Him, spit upon Him, & shall kill Him. And the 3rd day, he shall rise again.]

*And by wicked hands, you have taken, crucified, & [killed,] Whom God [has] raised up. Having [loosened] the pangs of death, because it wasn't possible that He should be [held] [by death.] [Psalm 49:9 *[So,] that He should not see corruption, & still live forever.]

*For David [spoke about] Him, I always foresaw the Lord before my face, for He is on my right hand, [so] that I should not be [removed.] Therefore, My heart [rejoiced,] & My tongue was glad. [Aslo, My flesh shall rest in hope, because You won't leave My soul in hell, & neither [will] You [allow,] Your Holy One to see corruption. [Acts 13:30-34 *But God raised [Jesus] from the dead. And [He was seen [by those who] came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, many days. Who are His witnesses to the people. *And we declare to you, glad tidings, [a.k.a. Good News,] how God has fulfilled the promise [that] was made to the [forefathers,] & the same [promise,] to us, their children. In that He [has] raised Jesus up again. As it is also written in the 2nd Psalm, You [are] My Son, & this day I have begotten You. *And [regarding] He, [Who] raised [Jesus] from the dead, said this, I will give You the sure mercies of David, no more to return to corruption.]

You [have] made the ways of [eternal] Life known to me. [John 14:6 Jesus [said] to him, I Am the Way, The Truth, & the Life. No man [comes] to the Father, [except] by Me.]

You [shall] make me full of joy with Your [presence.] Men & brethren, let me freely speak to you, [about] the patriarch, David, that he is both: dead & buried, & his [tomb] is with us [until] this day. [Acts 13:36 *For after David had served his own generation, & by the will of God, fell [asleep, a.k.a. died.] [And in death, David] was laid with his [forefathers] & saw corruption, [a.k.a. decay.]

*Therefore, being a prophet, & knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that [from] the fruit of [Davids'] loins, He would raise up Christ, [in] the flesh, to sit on His throne. [Revelation 3:20-21 *[Watch,] I stand at the door, & knock. If any man [hears] My voice, & [opens] the door, I will come in to him, & will [dine] with him, & he with Me. I will grant to him, [who overcomes,] to sit with Me [on] My throne, even [like] I also overcame, & Am [sitting] down with My Father [on] His throne.]

*[David's] seeing this [beforehand, spoke] of the Resurrection of Christ, that His soul wasn't left in hell. Neither [did] [Christ's] flesh see corruption, [a.k.a. decay.] [For this reason,] we are all witnesses [about] this Jesus, [Whom] God [has] raised up.

Therefore, [Jesus Christ,] being exalted [at God's] right hand, & having received [from] the Father, the promise of the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] He has [sent] forth, this, [what] you now see & hear. [Acts 10:45-47 And [those] of the circumcisions, & as many as came with Peter, who] believed, were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] was poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues, [a.k.a. languages,] & magnify God. Then, Peter [responded,] Can any man forbid water, [so] that these shouldn't be baptized, [who] have received the Holy Ghost, also [like] we [have?]

*For David [hasn't] ascended into the heavens: but [David,] himself, said, The Lord said to my Lord, You, sit on My right hand [side,] until I make Your foes Your footstool. [Psalm 110:1 *The Lord said to my Lord, You, sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool.]

Therefore, let all the house of Israel [certainly] know, that God [has] made that same Jesus, Whom you have crucified, both Lord & Christ. Now, when they heard this, they were [pierced] in their heart, & said to Peter & the rest of the apostles, Men & brethren, what shall we do?

Then, Peter said to them, Everyone of you, repent, & be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission, [a.k.a. forgiveness,] of sins, & you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit.] For the promise is to you, & to your children, & to all [who] are [far away,] even [to] as many as the Lord our God shall call. [John 10:15-16 [Like] the Father [knows] Me, I even know the Father [this way.] And I lay down My Life for the sheep. And I have other sheep, which are not of this [flock.] I must also bring them, & they shall hear My voice. And there shall be one [flock,] & One Shepherd.]

And [Peter testified] with many other words & [warned] [them,] saying, Save yourselves from this [inappropriate] generation. Then, they [who] gladly received [Peter's words,] were baptized. And there were about 3,000 souls added to them the same day.

And they continued [faithfully,] in the: apostles' doctrine, [a.k.a. teaching,] fellowship, breaking of bread, & in prayers. And fear, [a.k.a. respect,] came upon every soul. And many wonders, & signs, [a.k.a. Miracles,] were done by the apostles. [Acts 5:14-16 And [even] more multitudes of both men & women believers were added to the Lord. [In] that, they brought [out] the sick into the streets, & laid them on beds & couches, [so] that the least shadow of Peter passing by, might overshadow some of them. Also there came a multitude [from all around] the cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick [folk,] & [those, who] were [troubled] with unclean spirits, [a.k.a. demons,] & everyone [of] [them] were healed.]

And all [who] believed, were together, & had all things [in] common, [a.k.a. shared,] & sold their possessions & goods. And [divided] them to all men, as every man had need. [Acts 4:34-35 Neither [were] there any among them, [who] lacked. For as many as were [owners] of lands, or houses, sold them, & brought the [proceeds] of the things that were sold, & laid them at the apostles' feet. And distribution was made to every man according as he had need.]

And they, [continued] daily with one accord, [a.k.a. united like one,] in the temple. And [broke] bread from house to house, & [ate] their meat, [a.k.a. food,] with gladness & singleness of heart, [a.k.a. a focused heart,] praising God, & having [favor] with all the people.

And the Lord added to the church daily, such as should be saved. [John 3:16-17 For God loved the world so [much,] that He gave His only begotten Son, that [whoever believes] in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting Life. For God [didn't send] His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.]

O Theophilus, I [had previously] made [the] treatise, [a.k.a. report, about] all that Jesus began to do, & teach, until the day, in which He was taken up through the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] after [Jesus] had given commandments to the apostles, whom He had chosen. [Mark 16:15-16 And Jesus said to them, You, go into all the world, & preach the Gospel to every creature. He, [who] believes & is baptized shall be saved. But he, [who doesn't believe] shall be [condemned.]

To whom, [Jesus] also [demonstrated] Himself alive, after His passion, [a.k.a. He suffered,] by many infallible, [a.k.a. undeniable,] proofs. [John 20:26-31 And after 8 days, again [Jesus'] disciples were [inside,] & Thomas with them. Then, Jesus came, the doors being shut, & stood in the [middle,] & said, Peace be to you. *Then, [Jesus said] to Thomas, Reach your finger [here,] & [see] My hands. And reach your hand [here,] & thrust it into My side. And [don't] be [without faith,] but believing. And Thomas answered & said to Him, My Lord & my God. Jesus [said] to him, Thomas, because you [have] seen Me, you [have] believed. Blessed are [those, who] haven't seen, & [still] have believed. And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, [that] are not written in this book. But these are written, [so] that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. And that believing, you might have Life through His Name.]

Being seen [by] them 40 days, & speaking of things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. [1 Corinthians 15:3-10 *For first, I delivered to you all of [what] I also received, & how Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures. And that [Jesus] was buried, & He rose again the 3rd day, according to the Scriptures. And that [Jesus] was seen [by:] Cephas, & then [by] the 12. After that, [Jesus] was seen at once, [by over] 500 brethren, of whom the greater part, [a.k.a. the majority,] remain [until] this [day,] but some [have] fallen asleep, [a.k.a. died.] After that, [Jesus] was seen [by] James, & then by all the apostles. And last of all, He was seen by me, [a.k.a. Paul, formerly called Saul,] also [like someone] born: out of due time, [a.k.a. like a child past-due.] For I am the least of the apostles, & am not [worthy] to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God, I am what I am; & His grace [that] was bestowed upon me, was not [done] in vain. But I [labored] more abundantly than all [of] them, [still] not I, but the grace of God, which was [within] me.]

And being assembled together with them, commanded them, that they shouldn't depart from Jerusalem, but [should] wait for the promise [from] the Father. *[Jesus said,] Which you have heard [from] Me. For John truly baptized with water. But you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit,] not many days [from now.] [Acts 2:2-4 * And suddenly a sound from heaven came there, [like] a mighty, rushing wind, & it filled all [of] the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them, cloven tongues like as [from] fire & it sat [over] each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Therefore, when they [had] come together, they asked [from Jesus,] saying, Lord, [will] You restore the Kingdom again to Israel, at this time? And [Jesus] said to them, It isn't for you to know the times or the seasons, [that] the Father [has] put in His Own power. But you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit, has] come upon you. And you shall be [My] witnesses both in: Jerusalem, in all [of] Judaea, [a.k.a. Judea,] & in Samaria, & to the [furthest parts] of the earth.

And when [Jesus] had spoken these things, while they [watched,] a cloud received Him, & [Jesus] was taken up out of their sight. And while they [steadily] looked toward heaven as [Jesus] went up, [saw] 2 men stood by them in white [garments, who] also said, Why do you men of Galilee, stand gazing up into heaven? *This same Jesus, [Who] is taken up from you into heaven, shall [also] come in [similar] manner as you have seen Him go into heaven. [Revelation 1:7-8 *[Look,] He [comes] with clouds. And every eye shall see Him, & also [those, who] pierced Him. And all [families] of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen. I Am [the] Alpha & Omega, the Beginning & the Ending, [says] the Lord, [Who] Is, [Who] Was, & [Who] Is to Come, the Almighty.]

Then, they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount called Olivet, which is a Sabbath Day's journey from Jerusalem. And when they [entered] in, they went up into an upper room, where both: Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon Zelotes, & Judas the brother of James, [lodged.] All these continued with one accord, [a.k.a. like one in agreement,] in: [prayers, petitions,] & with the women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, & with His brethren.

And [during] those days, (about 120 were together [counted] [by] names,) & Peter stood up in the [middle] of the disciples, & said, *Men & brethren, [a.k.a. fellow believers,] this Scripture [was necessary] [to] have been fulfilled. Which the Holy Ghost, [a.k.a. Holy Spirit, previously spoke through] the mouth of David *[about] Judas, [who] was [the] guide to [those, who seized] Jesus. [Psalm 41:9 *[Yes,] My Own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, [who ate] of My bread, [has] lifted up his [heels] against Me.]

For [Judas] was [counted] with us, & had obtained, [a.k.a. acquired,] part of this ministry. Now, this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity. [Matthew 27:5-10 *And [Judas threw] down the pieces of silver in the temple, & departed, & went & [hung] himself.] And the chief priests [got advice,] & bought the Potter's Field with them, to bury strangers in. [For this reason,] that field is called The Field of Blood, to this day. *Then, was fulfilled, [what] was spoken by [Jeremiah,] the prophet, saying, And they took the 30 pieces of silver, the price of Him, [Who] was valued, Whom the children [a.k.a. people,] of Israel did value; & gave them for the Potter's Field, as the Lord [directed] me.]

And falling headlong, [Judas] burst [to pieces] in the midst & all his [guts burst] out. And it was known to all [those, who lived in] Jerusalem, [to this extent,] that field is called Aceldama, in their [own language,] that is to say, The Field of Blood.

*For it is written in the Book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, & let no man dwell [in it.] [Psalms 69:25 *Let their habitation be desolate, & let [no one] dwell in their tents.]

And let another take his [position.] [Psalms 109:8 *Let his days be few; & let another take his office.]

[For this reason,] these men, [who] have [accompanied] us, all the time that the Lord Jesus went in & out among us, beginning from the baptism of John, to the same day [Jesus] was taken up from us.

[Someone] must be ordained, [a.k.a. appointed,] to be a witness with us of [Jesus'] Resurrection. And they appointed 2, Joseph, called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, & Matthias.

And they prayed & said, Lord, You, [Who knows] the hearts of all men, [show which] of these 2 men You have chosen. [So] that he may take part [in] this ministry & apostleship, & go to his own place, [a.k.a. position,] from which Judas by transgression fell, [a.k.a. went astray.]

And they [cast out] their lots, & the lot fell upon Matthias. And he was [counted] with the 11 apostles.

After these things, Jesus [showed] Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. And [Jesus showed] Himself again, [like] this. Simon Peter, Thomas, called Didymus, Nathanael [from] Cana [of] Galilee, [Zebedee's] sons, & 2 other of [Jesus'] disciples were there together.

Simon Peter [said] to them, [I'm going] fishing. They [said] to [Peter,] We [will] also go with you. They went [out,] & entered into a ship immediately. And that night, they caught nothing.

But when the morning [had] come, Jesus stood on the shore; but the disciples [didn't know] it was Jesus. Then, Jesus [said] to them, Children, [do] you have any meat, [a.k.a. food?] They answered Him, No.

And [Jesus] said to them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, & you shall find [fish.] Therefore, they cast [the net,] & now, they weren't able to draw the multitude of the [fish] [in] it.

Therefore, that disciple, whom Jesus loved, [said] to Peter, It is the Lord. Now, when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, He [strapped] on his fisher's coat [on to] him, (for [Peter] was naked,) & [then,] cast himself into the sea.

And the other disciples came in a little ship: (for they weren't far from land, but [about] 200 cubits,) dragging the net with [all the] [fish.] Then, as soon as they [landed,] they saw a fire [made] of coals there, & fish laid [on it] & bread. Jesus [said] to them, Bring [some] of the fish, [that] you have [just] now caught.

Simon Peter went up, & drew the net to land, full of 153 [large fish.] For there were so many, & [still,] the net wasn't broken. Jesus [said] to them, Come, & dine. And knowing that it was the Lord, none of the disciples [dared] ask [Jesus,] Who [are] You?

Then, Jesus [came,] & [took] bread, & [gave] [it to] them, & [also] fish. This is now the third time that Jesus [showed] Himself to His disciples, after He [had] risen from the dead.

So, when they had dined, Jesus [said] to Simon Peter, Simon, son of [Jonah,] [do] you [love] Me more than these? [Peter said] to [Jesus, Yes,] Lord, You [know] that I love You. [Jesus said] to [Peter,] Feed My lambs.

[Jesus said] to [Peter,] again the 2nd time, Simon, son of [Jonah,] [do] you [love] Me? [Peter said] to [Jesus, Yes,] Lord, You [know] that I love You. [Jesus said] to [Peter,] Feed My sheep.

[Jesus said] to [Peter,] the 3rd time, Simon, son of [Jonah,] [do] you [love] Me? Peter was grieved, because [Jesus] said to him the 3rd time, [Do] you love Me? And [Peter] said to [Jesus,] Lord, You [know] all things. You [know] that I love You. Jesus [said] to [Peter,] Feed My Sheep.

[John 10:9-11 I Am the Door. If any man [enters] in, he shall be saved by Me, & shall go in & out, & find pasture. The thief [only] [comes] to steal, kill, & destroy. I [have] come [so] that they might have life, & that they might have it more abundantly. I Am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd [gives] His Life for the sheep.]

[Very, truly,] I say to you, When you [were] young, you [clothed] yourself, & [walked where] you [want.] *But when you [are] old,you [shall] stretch [out] your hands, & another shall [clothe] you, & carry, [a.k.a. take,] you [where] you [don't want] [to go.]

[2 Peter 1:13-15 *[Yes,] I think [it's appropriate,] as long as I am in this tabernacle, [a.k.a. body,] to stir you up, [a.k.a. motivate you,] by [reminding] you, knowing that shortly, I must put off, this my [body,] even [like] our Lord Jesus Christ [has declared to] me. [Also,] I will [attempt, so] that you may always be able to [remember] & have these things, after my [death.]

[Jesus spoke] this, signifying by what death [Peter] should glorify God. And when [Jesus] had spoken this, He [said] to [Peter,] Follow Me. Then, Peter, turning [around, saw] the disciple whom Jesus loved following, [who] also leaned on [Jesus' chest] at [the Last] Supper, & said, Lord, which [one] is he, [who] betrays You?

Peter seeing him, [said] to Jesus, Lord, & what shall this man do? Jesus [said] to [Peter,] If I [want] that he [tarries, a.k.a. waits, or remains, until] I come, what is that to you? You, follow Me.

Then this saying went [out,] among the brethren, that [this] disciple shouldn't die. [But,] Jesus [saidn't] say to him, He shall not die; but, If I [want,] that he shall tarry, [until] I come, what is that to you? This is the disciple, [who testifies about] these things, & wrote these things. And we know that his testimony is true.

And also, there are many other things [that] Jesus did, [of] which, if every one [of them] should be written, I suppose that even the world itself couldn't contain, [a.k.a. hold,] [all] the books that should be written. Amen.
