Lot & Abram Have an Abundance of Livestock & Go Separate Ways |
Genesis 13:1-18 The First Book of Moses Called Genesis |
Abram [left] Egypt with his wife [Sarai], Lot & all that he had & was very rich in cattle, silver & gold & went south [as far as] Bethel to the place he built his first altar to God, where his tent had been in the beginning between Bethel & Hai. [There,] Abram first called on the Name of the Lord. |
Lot, [who] also went with Abram, had flocks, herds & tents. [Lot & Abram had too many possessions] to dwell together & there was strife between the [herdsmen] of Abram's cattle & the [herdsmen] of Lot's cattle, and the Canaanite & the Perizzite [also] dwelt in the land. |
[So,] Abram said to Lot, I pray [that] you, that [there's] nos strife between you & me & between my [herdsmen] & your [herdsmen, for we [are relatives.] Isn't the whole land [in front of] you? I pray [that] you, separate yourself from me. If you will take the left hand [side,] I will go to the right. Or if you depart to the right hand [side, then I will go to the left. |
And Lot lifted up his eyes & [saw] all the plain of Jordan & that it was well watered everywhere, even like the garden [of Eden] of the Lord. before the Lord, destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah. Like the land of Egypt, as you come [into] Zoar. Then, Lot chose [for himself] to go to the plain of Jordan & journeyed east & they separated themselves one from the other. |
Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan & Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain & pitched his tent toward Sodom, but the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked before the Lord. |
After Lot had separated himself from him, the Lord God said to Abram, Lift up your eyes now & look from the place you are in [all directions:] *For all the land [that] you see, I will give it to you & to your [descendants] forever. And I will make your [descendants like] the dust of the earth in number: so that if a man [could count the grains of] dust, [so] shall your [descendants] be [counted.] [Genesis 22:17 That in blessing, I will bless you & in multiplying, I will multiply your [descendants like] the stars of heaven & the sand which is upon the seashore. And your [descendants] shall possess the gate of his enemies.] |
[God told Abram,] Arise & walk the length & [width of] the land; for I will give it to you. Then, Abram removed his tent & came & dwelt in the [plains] of Mamre, which is Hebron & built an altar to the Lord there. |
