Lot Taken Captive & Abram Rescues Him |
Genesis 14:1-24 The First Book of Moses Called Genesis |
It [happened] in the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, the kings: Arioch of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer of Elam & Tidal, king of nations, made war with the kings: Bera of Sodom, Birsha of Gomorrah, Shinab of Admah, Shemeber of Zeboiim & the king of Bela, which is Zoar. All these joined together in the [valley] of Siddim, which is [by] the Salt Sea & served Chedorlaomer 12 years, [but] in the 13th year they rebelled. |
In the 14th year, Chedorlaomer & the kings with him came & [attacked:] the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim, the Horites in Mount Seir, [all the way] to Elparan by the wilderness. And they returned & came to Kadesh & [attacked] all the country of: the Amalekites & also the Amorites [who both] dwelt in: Hazezon Tamar. |
There went out the [kings] of: Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim & Bela (Zoar is the same.) And they joined [together] in battle with them in the [Valley] of Siddim. With Chedorlaomer, the king of Elam, were: Tidal, king of nations; Amraphel, king of Shinar; Arioch, king of Ellasar-4 kings [against] 5. The [Valley] of Siddim was full of slimepits. The kings of Sodom & Gomorrah fled & fell there. And [those who remained] fled to the mountain. [Then] they took all the goods & [food] of Sodom & Gomorrah & took Lot, Abram's brother, who dwelt in Sodom, & his goods & departed. |
There came [someone who] escaped, came & told Abram, the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre. The Amorite, [the] brother of Eshcol & brother of Aner & these were [allies] with Abram. When [Abram] heard his brother,[ Lot,] was taken captive, Abram armed 318 trained servants, born in his house & pursued them [all the way] to Dan. [Abram] divided himself & his servants [at] night. [They] attacked them & pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left [side] of Damascus. [Abram] brought back Lot again, the women & people & all his goods. |
And the king of Sodom went out to meet [Abram] after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer & the kings with him, at the [valley] of Shaveh, which is the king's [valley.] |
[Then,] Melchizedek [Salem’s] king & priest of God, Most High, & brought [them] bread & wine. [Melchizedek] blessed them & said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heaven & earth. Blessed be the Most high God [Who] has delivered your enemies into your hand. [Then,] Abram gave him [1/10] tithes of all [he recovered]. |
The King of Sodom said for Abram, Give me the [people] & take the goods for yourself. [But,] Abram told the king of Sodom, I have [lifted] up my hand to the Lord, the Most High God, the Possessor of heaven & earth & I won't take anything of yours, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich. [Abram said, Except] for the food the young men [ate] & the portion of the men, [who] went with me: Aner, Eshcol & Mamre, let them take their portion [of the goods]. |
