The Lord Tells Abram His Descendants Will Be as Numerous as the Stars |
Genesis 15:1-21 The First Book of Moses Called Genesis |
After these things, the Word of the Lord [God] came to Abram in a vision, saying, [Don't be fearful,] Abram, because I am your shield & [exceedingly] great reward. Abram [asked] God, What will You give me, [since] I am childless & the [heir] of my house is Eliezer of Damascus? Abram said, [See,] You [haven't] given [me a child] & one born in my house, is [my] heir. The Word of the Lord came to [Abram,] saying, This shall not being your heir, & but *[one who comes] from your own [body] shall be your heir. [God brought Abram out] & said, Now, look toward heaven & tell the [amount of] stars, if you [are] able to [count] them. And [God] said, So shall your [descendants] be. [Abram] believed in the Lord & counted it to Him for righteousness. |
[Genesis 22:17 That in blessing, I will bless you & in multiplying, I will multiply your [descendants like] the stars of heaven & the sand which is upon the seashore. And your [descendants] shall possess the gate of his enemies.] |
The Lord said, I am the Lord God who brought you out of Ur of the [Chaldeans,] to give you this land to inherit it. Abram asked how he could know that he would inherit this & [Abram] said, Lord God, [how] shall I know that I shall inherit it? And God said to him, Take [& bring] to Me: a heifer & female goat & ram [all] 3 years old & a turtledove & young pigeon. [Abram] took all these to [God] & divided them [in the middle of the altar] & laid each piece against [each other, except for] the birds, [which] he [didn’t] divide. Abram drove away the [vultures that] came down on the carcases. |
[As] the sun [went] down, a deep sleep fell on Abram & a [severe] horror of the darkness fell upon [Abram.] *[The Lord God] said to Abram, Know [for certain] that your [descendants] will be strangers in a land that isn't theirs & will serve them & be afflicted by them 400 years, but I will judge that nation, whom they serve & afterward, they will [leave] with great [possessions]. |
[Exodus 12:35-37 And the children [people] of Israel did according to the word of Moses & they [asked from] the Egyptians: jewels of silver & gold & [clothing.] And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they [granted] to them such things as they required. And [the Israelites plundered] the Egyptians. And the children [people] of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, [with] about 600,000 men & children on foot.] |
You will be buried [with your forefathers] in peace, at a good old age. But they shall come [here] [Canaan,] again, in the 4th generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet [complete.] |
It [happened when] it was dark, a smoking [oven] & a burning [torch] passed between those pieces [of meat]. The same day, the Lord [God] made a covenant [contract] with Abram, saying, I have given this land to your [descendants] from the great River [of] Egypt to the Euphrates [River,] [the land of the:] Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaims, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites & Jebusites. |
